The transformation towards a low-carbon economy will impact every area,
especially the food sector.  On June 26, European Commissioner for Climate
Action and Energy, Miguel Arias Cañete will address the challenge of energy
use in the food system at Universal Exposition in Milan at a unique event
organized by DG ENER entitled Sustainable Solutions for Energy, Climate, and
Food Security [1].

TheSecond International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) [1] will be held in
Rome from 19 to 21 November 2014, with the participation of Heads of State
and Government, at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United
Nations. The Conference will be jointly organized by the Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), in
close collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), the International
Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), the United Nations Children’s Fund
(UNICEF), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO), the World Bank, the World Trade Organization (WTO),
the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) the
International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), the United Nations
Standing Committee on Nutrition (SCN) and the UN Secretary-General’s High
Level Task Force on Global Food Security (HLTF). Conference information is
also available in French [2] and Spanish. [3] The Conference will focus on
how to address major nutrition challenges over the coming decades. It will
result in concise action-oriented outcome document that will identify public
policy priorities at the national and global levels to address
under-nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies and over-weight with a view to
achieving the global nutrition targets by 2025. The Conference will be the
first high-level intergovernmental conference on nutrition since the First
International Conference on Nutrition was organized by FAO and WHO in 1992.
The First Conference resulted in a World Declaration and Plan of Action for
Nutrition which called on national leaders to develop National Plans of
Action for Nutrition and establish institutional infrastructure to implement
these plans.

online discussion, FAO is looking for examples of how care farming may help
fill gaps in social service provision as well as provide rural employment

The Briefing Emerging donors and rising powers in agriculture in ACP
countries [1] will discuss the key challenges and new opportunities to
enhance South-South and Triangular cooperation. The Briefing will: i) review
successes and the lessons learned from research and practice; ii) promote the
exchange of information on best practices and drivers of success; iii) feed
into the debate various perspectives on policy options. It will review the
key challenges and opportunities in South-South cooperation in agriculture
and the lessons learned from research and practice. It will also look at
examples of successes in South-South and triangular partnerships across the
ACP. A meeting report [2] is also available on ROSA, posted on 16 November
2015.

In the context of the forthcoming COP21 and its follow-up, the European
Commission jointly with SE4All has organised two regional workshops that
will provide technical assistance to cities of Sub-Saharan Africa interested
in designing and implementing policies, actions and investments in the field
of sustainable energy and access.

The first workshop is taking place in Dakar with representatives from Central
and Western Africa cities and countries, city networks, EU cities and other
relevant actors.

(geographical indications or “GIs”) and other origin marketing tools in
the context of ACP countries. The event touched upon important topics such
as: existing global and regional frameworks for protecting geographical
indications and traditional products, the Caribbean experience in protecting
agrifood products, or the leverage of GI potentials in the use of
underutilized species.
