Joint MEA's workshop was held to harmonize and coordinate the work of these
three MEAs in the region with the ultimate goal of reducing the
administrative burden on Pacific Island countries that are Parties to these
three Conventions. ABS supported at this workshop.

One of the two workshops that were held in Majuro, Republic of Marshall
Islands in 2015, the event brought together 32 participants from 7 different
departments, an NGO as well as a local university. The workshop included
capacity building on the SoE process and identification of indicators as well
as data collection.

UNEP organized and convened in Brussels, Belgium from 11 to 13 February 2014,
the Inception Meeting of the ACP MEAs Programme on Capacity Building related
to Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEA) in African, Caribbean and
Pacific (ACP) Countries – Phase II.  The 3-days meeting was held at the
ACP Secretariat and was attended by 35 participants representing the European
Commission (the donor), the ACP Secretariat as the Chair, UNEP as the
coordinator and facilitator of the Programme, the UN Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) and all the implementing partners, including the Regional
Hubs, some relevant MEA Secretariats, UNEP MEA Focal Points and some selected
NGOs as per the list of participants attached.  

The purpose of the meeting was to initiate Phase II of the ACP MEAs project
by:  

1)Ensuring that the participants had a good overview of the aims and
structure of the ACP MEA Programme;

2)Ensuring that the participants were familiar with and shared a common
understanding of the approved Contribution Agreement and that they were aware
of the next steps to complete the programme work plans and the log frames for
implementation of Phase II ;

3)Identifying and  clarifying areas of collaboration among regional hubs and
Component 2 Partners;  

4)Building communication and coordination amongst programme partners for
effective and efficient implementation of the Programme.

From *March 18**th **to 20**th*, an E-debate on *“Island economies facing
Climate disasters: what options?”* will take place on Intra-ACP APP online
platform on Capacity4dev (www.capacity4dev.ec.europa.eu) – E-meetings
section – to address this general concern of small islands. With
interventions from climate change experts such as *Dr Olu Ajayi* from CTA and
moderation from *Mr Samson VilvilFare*, the Intra-ACP APP coordinator, this
online discussion will contribute to generate sound options for better
responses to climate disasters in ACP countries and more particularly in
islands economies.

Access and benefit sharing workshops were held in Nadi and Sydney to support
PICs understanding and potentially becoming members of ABS. It is hoped that
at least four extra Pacific ACP countries will become party to particular
MEAs and benefit from SPREP’s advice on benefits of becoming party.
