Innovations in areas such as mobile payments and remote healthcare in developing countries are helping to turn the old development paradigm on its head. “It’s not any more the South which has the problems and the North which has the solutions,” said Alexander De Croo, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister. “It’s for the first time a real multipolar role,” as digital technology is becoming an integral part of society in the least developed countries.
Over 3,000 development officials have gathered in Busan, South Korea, this week for an important forum on aid effectiveness. According to Vice President of the World Bank Institute Sanjay Pradhan, who is attending the event, capacity development has yet to attain its full potential for changing societies.
We’re living in a fast moving world, where information is exchanged faster and more readily than at any other time in human history. At the European Commission, Klaus Rudischhauser, Deputy Director General of the European Commission’s development arm, EuropeAid, wants to develop the capacity of EC staff so that they can get more involved in communicating the ideas and position of the organisation.
