From *March 18**th **to 20**th*, an E-debate on *“Island economies facing
Climate disasters: what options?”* will take place on Intra-ACP APP online
platform on Capacity4dev ( – E-meetings
section – to address this general concern of small islands. With
interventions from climate change experts such as *Dr Olu Ajayi* from CTA and
moderation from *Mr Samson VilvilFare*, the Intra-ACP APP coordinator, this
online discussion will contribute to generate sound options for better
responses to climate disasters in ACP countries and more particularly in
islands economies.

The National training workshop - Policy Dialogue on Mainstreaming Ecosystem
Services and Biodiversity in Agriculture in Samoa, is being co-organized by
FAO and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) in
cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF), the
Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), the
Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and with technical support of the
CBD Secretariat. The national training is aimed at facilitating the uptake of
ecosystem services and biodiversity as key component of healthy agricultural
production and management systems in the implementation of Samoa’s National
Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and the National Agriculture
Sector Plan (NASP), in the context of the Samoa Development Strategy (SDS).

The symposium will focus discussions on R&D topics including rapid
multiplication protocols (using bioreactor tissue culture system), field
propagation methods using different types of planting material (root suckers,
marcots, tissue culture) on different breadfruit varieties, planting
breadfruit as part of a farming system and as a climate change mitigation
strategy, commercial breadfruit orchards, opportunities for investment in
postharvest processing, and way forward for breadfruit development.

One of the two workshops that were held in Majuro, Republic of Marshall
Islands in 2015, the event brought together 32 participants from 7 different
departments, an NGO as well as a local university. The workshop included
capacity building on the SoE process and identification of indicators as well
as data collection.

Joint MEA's workshop was held to harmonize and coordinate the work of these
three MEAs in the region with the ultimate goal of reducing the
administrative burden on Pacific Island countries that are Parties to these
three Conventions. ABS supported at this workshop.
