The Caucasus Region, located between the three big powers Turkey, Iran, and
Russia, is characterized by numerous tensions and conflicts at a national and
an international level. In the South Caucasus Region, the concentration of
conflicts is extremely high – some of them have existed for a long time and
are to be characterized as “frozen” conflicts. However, they have become
more polarized in the recent years and the escalation risk has been growing
which leaves little hope for a peaceful settlement in the near future.
Indeed, unhelpful and mutually exclusive positions are currently being
reinforced. Inclusive and well coordinated peace processes became extremely
important to tackle the complex situation and protracted conflicts. The
summer academy addresses these issues and will analyze the dynamics,
catalysts and perspectives of conflicts and their potential transformation in
the region, with a focus on Armenia and Azerbaijan. Participants will have
the opportunity to gain first-hand insights from international and local
experts, to learn about and to practice conflict transformation in general
and regarding the South Caucasus in particular. The summer academy is an
excellent place to increase one’s personal and professional network in the
cozy atmosphere of the Caux Palace Hotel.

Organised byInstitute for Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding (ICP) and CAUX-Initiatives of Change (CAUX-IofC)

International forums offer participants an opportunity to exchange and make
connections with other stakeholders, in an attempt to create synergies.
As of yet, such an opportunity is missing within the field of peacebuilding.
This is why the Institute for Conflict Transformation
and Peacebuilding (ICP) and CAUX-Initiatives of Change (CAUX-IofC) joined
hands to organize the International Peace-Builders’ Forum (IPF) 2014 in
Caux. The event will be held on 11 - 12 August 2014. So far the registration
for exhibitors is opened and we would like to invite you to be part of it as
an exhibitor. Please consult the exhibitors information booklet for more
information here (scroll down to downloads):
Thank you for your time and interest and see you in Caux.

-------- PEACE MEDIATION: FROM CONFLICT TO COOPERATION -----------------------

.... **

*7th ICP International Summer Academy, Caux (Montreux), Switzerland*
*12th to 16th of August 2014*

As a constructive approach to peacefully transform violent conflicts into
cooperation, the importance of peace mediation has significantly increased
over recent years. Peace mediation aims at preventing or solving violent
conflicts by conducting dialogue and negotiations. This way, peace mediators
assist the different parties involved to overcome the burden of the conflict
and guide them towards constructive, cooperative solutions for a peaceful and
common future.

The art of peace mediation requires patience and perseverance, as well as
skills, knowledge, methodology and experience. With the theme "Peace
Mediation: From Conflict to Cooperation", the 7th ICP Summer Academy aims at
offering to its participants a complete overview of the methods and
approaches to conflict transformation and a broad range of tools for
mediation. Participants will have the opportunity to gain first-hand insights
from international and local experts during the lectures. The workshops and
mediation simulations will allow them to play the mediator role and thus
improve their practical skills of conflict transformation. Additionally, the
summer academy is an excellent place to increase one’s personal and
professional network in the cozy atmosphere of the Caux Palace Hotel.
