Water and Beyond: Elements for a strategic approach on global and EU external action in the water sector
On 9 July, at 14:00, the European Commission Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) is launching a new publication called ‘Water and Beyond – Elements for a strategic approach on global and EU external action in the water sector’.
The launch ceremony is taking place at the high-level event ‘’A roadmap to a healthy and sustainable future – Health and water at the core of the EU-Africa partnership’’, jointly organised by the Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung (DSW), WaterAid and the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
“This publication charts a course for EU international partnerships on water, identifying not just what a ‘water and beyond’ approach entails, but how it can be achieved. As we build back better, we must make every drop count, every second, more than ever,” said Jutta Urpilainen, Commissioner for International Partnerships.
EU interventions targeting water, sanitation and hygiene impact multiple sustainable development goals and can support national and international commitments for greater well-being, security and resilience against risks, in communities and across regions. This publication lays out a roadmap for the integration of interventions related to water and sanitation in multisectoral strategies and programmes designed for partner countries and regions.
The booklet presents opportunities, challenges, and examples of operational strategies to strengthen transboundary cooperation, build broader partnerships and trigger investments in the water and sanitation sector.
