Brussels Development Briefing on the Water we Eat: : Challenges for ACP countries in times of scarcity
This Briefing discussed the complex and dynamic relationship between water resources and agriculture in ACP countries, especially in the context of climate change and variability of agricultural systems. Many regions are experiencing a limited and unreliable access to water as well as water loss from poor irrigation systems and water management. This results in limited agricultural productivity and increased water crisis in many countries. Policy options which improve water governance and management needed to resolve or prevent water conflicts and improve the productivity of water usage were discussed.
On the Brussels briefings website (brusselsbriefings.net) you will find video and PowerPoint documentation of all the speeches given at the conference, as well as the programme of the event, photos, highlights, and the reader. The reader gives an overview of global water scarcity and trends exacerbating water scarcity. This is followed by an analysis of the link between water and agriculture and concludes with possible responses to the situation.
