The EU timber regulation (EUTR), the EU’s illegal logging law, has been in place for five years. This law aims to prevent illegal timber from entering the EU market and requires companies to check the risk of illegal timber products in their supply chains.
The EU and Honduras have concluded negotiations on a Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT). The agreement will help improve forest governance, address illegal logging and promote trade in verified legal timber products.
This Toolkit is intended to inform law-makers about key legal issues that may arise when forests are cleared for conversion to another use, including agriculture, mining, infrastructure or urbanisation, and the risks that may stem from those issues.
