Global Witness has published a report that accuses EU companies of fuelling conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR) and claims that the EU Member States failed to implement Regulation (EU) 995/2010 (the EUTR).
In Ghana, implementation of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement with the EU has prompted improved multi-stakeholder dialogue within the forest sector as well as a process of legal reform, which have contributed to reduced illegal logging.
This latest assessment of international efforts to improve forest governance and tackle illegal logging is based on studies undertaken in nineteen countries between 2013 and 2014. The findings show a mixed picture. At the national level progress is clearly evident.
