Trade in Illegal Timber: The Response in Japan

The Japanese government has continued to engage on the issue of illegal logging but its approach has been focused on soft voluntary measures, which limit the government's ability to eliminate illegal products from the market. Further legislation, including risk assessment and third-party monitoring, is required to control imports of illegal wood-based products.
