Certified Areas of Guadua: more efforts in forest legality
From November 26th to 27th, a monitoring of certified areas of Guadua by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) was held.
As positive, was rated the surveillance audit process by the auditing firm GFA, that took place at the certified farms: Núcleo Forestal de Guadua la Esmeralda and Yarima Guaduawhich are currently receiving technical advice from the Forest Governance Positioning Project in Colombia PPGFC in order to compliance the certification requirements and specially three elements: promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable
These pillars include aspects such as: supports of logging operation, management plans, technical assistance, monitoring to management plans, personnel training, among others. CARDER and CRQ, as environmental authorities give support and advice.
During the closing meeting surveillance audit (FCS certificates are valid for five years), Forestry Engineer Juan Carlos Romero, the auditor in charge, highlighted the commitment of all shareholders. He suggested to the certified group in Guadua, to be prepared and commit with the National Standars that must be adapted in the country about Guadua, given that the current ones are made with international standards. He also, invited the group to keep looking for units to be certified.
