Workshop "Working for an healthier future" Promoting sustainable employment in the health sector in developing countries
The workshop aims to assess the situation, identify key challenges and develop policy solutions to promote sustainable employment in the health sector in developing countries.
The health sector holds tremendous untapped potential for the creation of decent employment and inclusive economic growth, particularly for women and young people. The World Health Organisation estimates a shortfall of 18 million health workers by 2030, primarily in low and middle-income countries. Yet, in order to get there, major investments are required in training, education and improving the quality and security of the health workforce, including the better management of workforce migration. The challenge is immense, but if we act now, the benefits can be transformative.
