Joanna Martin

I am a British trained ITV and BBC journalist with over 12 years of experience in sub-Saharan Africa working in TV, radio, video production and print. I have a UK Master's degree in Broadcast Journalism and work mainly with NGOs, embassies and UN agencies, as well as large news corporations.

I manage several media and publicity campaigns in Africa. Most recently I filmed and facilitated media coverage for forestry projects in Tanzania including the REDD+ programme. I have also worked on a USAID stabilisation programme, focussing on media ethics and strengthening national TV, radio and print output for the Ministry of Information in Somaliland.

My track record proves my capacity to lead discussions and deliver results with important stakeholders in multilateral organisations, international private sector associations and research institutes. My experience targeting a diverse audience makes me the ideal candidate to develop public relations, media, awareness-raising and knowledge dissemination strategies.

I have extensive experience with the private sector, having written and directed TV talk shows concerning increasing trade competitiveness in the East African region, and I have also trained business professionals to deliver effective TV and radio interviews in Kenya. I regularly teach media skills courses for public policy advocacy at the University of Dar es Salaam Business School.

Overall my working experience stretches from Tanzania to Japan, which makes me sensitive to cross-cultural audiences and their specific requirements.
