Date of Publication: 2012

The report is among the first attempts to take an integrated look at sustainable development in the pan-European region. It argues that a new growth model in this region is both necessary and possible – one which increases human development, advances equality and reduces the ecological footprint.
Fundamental steps identified include:

  • the removal of fossil fuel subsidies
  •  the establishment of a social protection floor
  •  the development of policies to create green and decent jobs particularly in specified sectors
  •  the adoption of a governance approach that considers sustainability in all major decisions at national and local level
  • awareness raising about sustainable consumption and production among all actors in society
