From Transition to Transformation: Sustainable and Inclusive Development in Europe and Central Asia

Date of Publication: 2012
The report is among the first attempts to take an integrated look at sustainable development in the pan-European region. It argues that a new growth model in this region is both necessary and possible – one which increases human development, advances equality and reduces the ecological footprint.
Fundamental steps identified include:
- the removal of fossil fuel subsidies
- the establishment of a social protection floor
- the development of policies to create green and decent jobs particularly in specified sectors
- the adoption of a governance approach that considers sustainability in all major decisions at national and local level
- awareness raising about sustainable consumption and production among all actors in society
