The progress among the countries, which constitute the Amazon Biome in the creation of various figures and strategies for conservation of biological and cultural diversity, is undeniable, although essentially in the land domain. To date about 47% (324,107, acres7) of the area covering the Amazon Biome is under some form of protection. Biodiversity conservation is based on the management of national, regional and local protected areas (PA’s), indigenous territories and forest management strategies are also considered. Additionally, progress has been made at the regional level in management processes and cooperation for the management of adjacent protected areas.
