The European Union and EU Member States France and Germany have together signed a Joint Programming agreement that is set to deliver 715 million euros of development funds to the West African nation of Togo.

 

The agreement, which was signed on the 22 June covers commitments from 2014 through to 2020 and will focus on five areas:

  1. political stability, democratic consolidation, deepening the rule of law and national reconciliation

  2. capacity building to promote peace and stability in the region and the fight against illegal trafficking

  3. the promotion of trade and regional integration

  4. poverty reduction and economic and social development

  5. strengthening civil society capacity to monitor government actions and hold government accountable
