EC regional seminar on food security in Asia

The main objective of the seminar has been to gather European Commission staff and other stakeholders concerned with management of food security programmes in the region for exchanges and elaboration of harmonized positions.
The seminar has been structured around presentations, debates and working and discussion groups. The main subjects presented and discussed were:

  • Update on European Union and European Commission response concerning the Soaring Food Prices.
  • Analysis of the impact of the responses to raising food prices on ongoing programming and formulation exercise and reflection on implementation modalities, and partners.
  • Presentation and debate around main conclusions and recommendations of the thematic seminar organized by E6 in Brussels from 15 to 18 April 2008 on the theme: "Entitlement and access to food: social transfers systems to fight against extreme poverty".
  • Presentation and debates around the main conclusions and recommendations of the thematic seminar organized by E6 in Brussels from 7 to 8 May 2008 on the theme: "Enhancing EC’s contribution to address child and maternal under nutrition and its causes". Also the AIDCO E6 concept note on Nutrition was presented during the seminar.
  • Food Security and Budgetary Support approach.
  • Discussion about mid-term review of CSPs and mainstreaming of food security in national programs.
  • Discussion about support expected by Delegations from AIDCO/E6 (networking, practical guides, indicators, training, ROSA, etc.).
