Projects Planning and Design Director
TAMAT (Civil Society / NGO)
Based in:
Italy

Tamat is a non-governmental organization accredited by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI) and by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). Tamat works on food security, agriculture, rural tourism, social entrepreneurship and migration. Tamat believes in people and in strengthening competences and skills, in order to improve everybody’s life conditions for an equal, inclusive and a gender parity world. In North and West Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe, Tamat supports local communities and civil society to implement sustainable solutions, environmentally, socially and culturally, by using local resources and enhancing competences and skills. In Europe, Tamat works with civil society, institutions and universities on the issues and challenges in achieving the goals envisioned by the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

Historically, we have been engaging in agriculture sustainable practices in Burkina Faso and Mali, focusing on food security to reach a greater socio-economic and social equity especially for women and their family.  In 2015 we set up to create a pedagogical social restaurant “La Jardinière” in the capital of Burkina Faso, using agricultural products bought directly from the farmers and producers groups and acting as a living laboratory of sustainable agriculture (local varieties, dripping irrigation, organic fertilization, etc.), providing fresh meals to local schools and sustainable nutrition workshops educating kids and mothers. Our work in West Africa informs and inspires our cooperation development work with migrants in Europe, where we work on employability and integration projects. To find out more view the short documentary Lambè (v. IT)  “dignity” in Mandinka language.

In 2015 we have led a beyond borders youth action on the Millennium Goals through the European Commission  funded project  In.J.Awa.Ra. (Project no. DCI-NSAED/2011/180), where we invited young people from Italy, Lithuania, Cyprus, Bulgaria, France and Spain, to reflect on world challenges and to actively engage on global issues, starting from their practical experiences. For In.J.Awa.Ra we devised a successful board game played across schools of all grades to this day.

In 2017 we managed a broad network of over 50 partners and stakeholders, between local institutions, cities, universities, associations and NGOs, for an 18 months itinerant awareness raising cultural action with over 150 events and a 9 days wide spread festival on Responsible Global Citizenship (GCE) and the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.  The project  Festival del Mondo in Comune UmbriaMiCo, co-financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation  (AICS), led to the constitution of Umbria County (Central Italy) regional network for development cooperation: Umbriamico.

Tamat is currently engaged in a major, capacity building communication through art, pan-African project called AwartMali on the risks, motivations and alternative to migration for youth in Mali, co-funded by the Asylum Migration and Integration Fund of the European Union.
