Children and Youth

Children are adults in construction and they deserve special attention. Childhood is a crucial moment and all stakeholders have to ensure that the fundamental rights enclosed in the Convention on the Rights of the Child are fulfilled for all children in the world. These rights range from the simple recognition of their existence through birth registration to their education and protection.

The protocol, adopted in 2000 and entered into force in 2002, requires ratifying States to ensure that persons who have not attained the age of 18 years are not compulsorily recruited into their armed forces.
