Recommendation: 4) Include in project design attention to women’s empowerment within the household and community. Household and community empowerment can also be the result of economic empowerment but is best specifically stimulated in conjunction with economic empowerment.

Evidence sample: the evaluation noted that impressive changes had occurred among the members of the saving and credit groups, who are by 80% women. These women had changed from the beginning of the project: they have increased self-reliance, act differently, speak up in public, are better able to plan their lives and they support their group members.
