Strategically financing an effective role for the EU in the world

This paper provides a first set of reflections on how to strategically finance an effective role for the European Union in the world beyond 2020, when the current multiannual financial framework will be replaced by a new one. ECDPM experts look at the broader global and European context and how they are shaping the EU’s external action. Available evidence shows that the current setup has struggled to confront internal and external challenges, and major reforms would be needed to make it fit for those going forward. The paper looks at key issues for the negotiations of the future multiannual financial framework and makes some initial suggestions on possible pathways to change. Read the paper
