How do we best position youth with disabilities for employment? EU-CORD
members Light for the World (LftW) and ZOA will explain their approach and
present the results and lessons learned on inclusion of youth with a
disability in mainstream technical vocational education and training (TVET)
centres in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. LftW has worked with local
governments, training institutes, disabled people's organisations and
companies to make inclusion a reality. These learnings are now scaled up in a
joint EU funded project by ZOA and LftW in Uganda: Skills, Employment and
Entrepreneurship for Acholi. Based on these experiences this lunchtime
conference will facilitate a discussion about how these insights of
disability inclusion can feed into the mainstream development policies and
programmes .

The event will present the second book of CBM series on disability-inclusive
development (DID) “Inclusion Counts. The Economic Case for Disability
Inclusive Development". The publication highlights the *economic implications
of disability-inclusive policies* and speaks to a broad audience, including
governments and policy makers. The event will raise awareness among EU
decision-makers and other stakeholders on the advantages of
disability-inclusion; it also aims to create an opportunity to broaden and
strengthen the dialogue between them and representatives from persons with
disabilities organisations (DPOs) worldwide.

The event is part of a week-long event dedicated to the issue of disability
in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities,
organized by the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC),
via its EU Task Group and its partners.
