Globalisation has lead to greater numbers of people moving across borders and there are now over 200 million migrants worldwide. Their motives for migrating are numerous and frequently not clear-cut but a mix, ranging from looking for a better future elsewhere in the face of socio-economic disparities and underdevelopment, to seeking a safe haven from conflict, violence, discrimination, violations of their human rights or fleeing from environmental disasters.
