In this edition Marco Segone (UNFPA) and Khalil Bitar (EvalYouth) explain how the UN Decade of Action led to the creation of the Eval4Action Campaign, through which evaluators aim to strengthen their contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This unique collaboration between the UNFPA Evaluation Office, the EvalYouth Global Network and the Global Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation has mobilised a great deal of institutional and private stakeholders and an open invitation is extended to anyone with a heart for the SDGs to join. The realisation of the SDGs, as Marco says, is “really up to each of us”.

MARCO SEGONE is Director of the Evaluation Office at UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. Previous positions include director of the Evaluation Office at UN Women; Chair of the United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG), the network of Evaluation Offices of 46 UN agencies; co-founder and co-chair of EvalPartners - the global partnership for national evaluation capacities – and EvalGender+. Marco held various positions at UNICEF and also worked in international NGOs in Albania, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand and Uganda. Among many others, his publications include: Evaluating the SDGs with a ‘no one left behind lens’; Evaluation for Equitable Development Results; and, How to Design and Manage Equity-Focused Evaluations.

KHALIL BITAR is the Chair of the EvalYouth Global Network; Founder of the Palestinian Evaluation Association (PEA); and Co-Founder of the EvalYouth MENA regional chapter.  Khalil works as an (internal and external) evaluator and M&E specialist and is currently completing his doctoral research at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy in Germany.  His research interests include evaluation in conflict-affected and fragile states, national evaluation systems, policy evaluation, evaluation in the MENA region, activism in evaluation, and social justice, equity-focused, and youth participatory evaluation.
