«Ce que nous voulons faire, c’est changer l’ensemble du mécanisme de financement qui anime la production de contenus en ligne», déclare au quotidien américain Jack Conte, cofondateur de Patreon, une société de financement participatif. «Nous voulons changer la façon dont les choses se paient et comment fonctionne le Web.»

Jack Conte a fondé Patreon en 2013 et a depuis investi 100 millions de dollars dans le domaine de la culture. En 2016, environ 35 artistes ont récolté plus de 150 000 dollars chacun sur la plateforme. «Je pense que quelque chose a changé sur le plan culturel», a-t-il déclaré.
