Live streamed Opening Ceremony of the EYD2015

Today President Juncker and Latvia Prime Minister Straujuma are launching in Riga the European Year for Development. The event includes 2 panels, a press conference and a Kapuscinski Development Lecture.

Bringing together 250 high-ranking participants including HR/VP Mogherini, CoR President Lebrun, Commissioner Mimica, Commissioner Vella, EU Development Ministers, representatives from international organisations, and NGOs, the event aims to inform and raise the profile of the post-2015 process and highlight the opportunities of the planned EYD2015 activities. The event gives a special focus to good governance and the role of effective and responsible institutions as essential for sustainable and inclusive development.

Following the panels, Director-General Frutuoso de Melo will open Mr Homi Kharas' Kapuscinski Development Lecture on "Transitioning from ‘the Developing World’ to ‘a Developing World’”
