SPHaïtiLAB - Haiti has officially launched its National Laboratory Policy

« I declare: the document concerning the National Laboratory Policy of Haiti, document of development of the public health of Haiti », These are the words pronounced by the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Marie Greta Roy Clément, to officially launch this Tuesday, June 19th, 2018 the National Laboratory Policy of Haiti (NLP) at the Karibe Convention Center Hotel in front of partners working in the field of the Laboratory and members of the press.

According to Minister Clément, this document will have the main mission to contribute to the diagnosis of diseases, patient follow-up, disease prevention, epidemic management, health research and disease surveillance improvement of the health status of the population. She underlined the role of the laboratory in the detection of new epidemics in the country as cholera in 2010, chikungunya, zika and the flu H1N1. This allows the MSPP to organize an appropriate response.

For his part, the Director General of the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), Dr. Lauré Adrien, invites all stakeholders to combine their efforts to implement the National Laboratory Policy of Haiti. In addition, Dr. Adrien hoped that this activity is not just a document among many others, but a real starting point for the renewal of our laboratory system.


The Director of the National Public Health Laboratory (LNSP), Dr. Jacques Boncy, welcomed the existence of this document, wrote within the framework of the project SPHaïtiLab*, co-funded by the European Union and the Fondation Mérieux. He pointed out that this is the first National Laboratory Policy (NLP) produced by the Ministry of Health, which is the regulating authority of the system, since the creation of the first laboratory in Haiti by Dr Léon Audain in 1905.

According to Dr Boncy, the NLP will allow all the actors working in the sector to become aware of the Ministry's guidelines for improving and developing the laboratory system. Among the strategic axes, we can name in particular: the management and the legal and regulatory devices, the development and the application of the standards, the human resources, the financing of the domain of the laboratories, the promotion of the research in biology, the management information to the laboratory, quality, supply system, equipment, as well as biosecurity and waste management.
