SHARE project attends 72nd World Health Assembly
Dr. A.T.M Iqbal Anwar, Scientist and Project Director and Dr. Sadika Akhter, Deputy Project Coordinator, UHC, Health Systems and Population Studies Division, icddr,b attended the 72nd World Health Assembly (WHA) during May 21-23, 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland. This team represented SHARE project, icddr,b to support a Side Event organized jointly by Bangladesh and Italy on Nutrition4Health titled, “Nutrition Innovations along with NCDs Prevention for Achieving Universal Health Coverage within the Context of the 2030 Agenda and the UN Nutrition Decade there”. This side event was designed to share country experiences in identifying potential nutrition innovations leading to the pathways of achieving UHC. At the same time, to showcasing the good practices on innovative approaches for web-based online Nutrition Information System (NIS) as part of Hospital Information System (HIS) in Bangladesh. This platform gave an opportunity to share the findings of NCD policy analysis in Bangladesh on salt, sugar and trans-fat undertaken by icddr,b; and to learn about best practices in nutrition and NCD prevention and control as part of achieving UHC from different countries those have already implemented well.

The side event was hosted by Bangladesh and Italy and co-sponsored by icddr,b, UNICEf and the World Bank. Along with Mr. Zahid Maleque MP, Health Minister, Md. Ashadul Islam, Secretary, Health Services Division, Secretary of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Abul Klam Azad, Director General of DGHS and Dr. Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, President of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Dr Iqbal Anwar and Dr. Sadika Akhter represented as members of the Bangladesh country Delegation Team in the 72nd WHA. This visit was supported by European Union’s ‘Supporting Public Health Institute Programme’ (SPHIP), that SHARE project is a part of.
On the other hand, they’ve attended the launching of The Global Health 50/50 2019 Report named ‘Equality Works,’ organized by SHARE’s collaborative partner, University College London (UCL) on May 23, 2019 in Geneva. This report is significant to implement SHARE project’s Gender Equality & Social Inclusion (GESI) work in Bangladesh.
