I am an urban planner by training and have worked for many years internationally in urban and regional development, both in practise and in education and training. Areas of focus include participative strategic planning, the integration of planning with urban and regional management and integration of capacity development. I worked in planning and implementation focusing on urban poor in Egypt over a number of years. At the Institute for Housing for Housing and Urban Development Studies in Netherlands I was responsible for urban management and was able to combine practise with teaching. I spent three years in Indonesia wokring on capacity for integrated urban infrastructure development. I also led the team that developed the Guidelines for Sustainable Urban Development for EC. In Kosovo I supported the setting up of the Spatial Plannning Institute and developement of the Strategic Spatial Plan. I have worked for extended periods in Netherlands, UK, Egypt, Indonesia and Zambia, and for shorter periods in India, Vietnam, Poland, Romania and South Africa and a range of other countries where I have carried out short missions.
