CTA at EDD2015: Vanuatu & the Pacific: disaster, rehabilitation & sustainable development - Thursday 4th June 2015, 12:30-13:45pm – Room D2
The 9th edition of European Development Days 2015 (EDD2015) will take place from 3-4th June at Tour & Taxi, Brussels. Revolutionising data use to feed the planet is the theme of CTA’s lab at the upcoming European EDD 2015. The Lab shall discuss the rapidly changing world within which African agriculture operates; the relevance and accuracy of our data and knowledge base; rising investments and policy interest in Africa’s agriculture demands and the necessity to have an up -to -date picture of the reality on the ground. The Lab will showcase the ‘The Agriculture in Africa – Telling Facts from Myths’ project, which contributes to this by analysing national household surveys from 6 African countries conducted under the Living Standards Measurement Study – as part of the Integrated Surveys on Agriculture Initiative, launched in 2009. It is equally important to revisit some of the hypotheses underpinning the debates about Africa’s structural transformation and farmers’ resilience. Speakers include Michael Hailu, CTA’s Director, Luc Christiaensen, World Bank and Fleur Wouterse, from the Regional Farmers Organisations Project. Bernard Rey, Deputy Head of Unit for Rural Development, Food Security and Nutrition from DG DevCo will moderate the Lab session.
