Handbook on Community Security

There is increasing recognition from policymakers and programmers of the need to put people at the centre of the concept of security to improve effectiveness and outcomes. Community Security, a bottom up approach to building security, is one way of achieving this objective.

This handbook, published by the INGO Saferworld, is aimed at both the policy community and practitioners – particularly programme managers – and intends to help them work through the steps involved in planning, implementing, evaluating and improving community security interventions.

Saferworld has been using community security approaches to build human security and contribute to wider peace and development goals in diverse contexts affected by peace and security for more than ten years.
