SIDS - A Blue Urban Agenda: Adapting to Climate Change in the Coastal Cities of Caribbean and Pacific Small Island Developing States

Dear all,

Those following the Ocean conference currently taking place in New York and of great relevance to our Small Island Developing States (SIDS) partners, you might also be interested by this publication from the Inter-America Development Bank : A Blue Urban Agenda: Adapting to Climate Change in the Coastal Cities of Caribbean and Pacific Small Island Developing States

GCCA projects in the Caribbean and Pacific regions are mentioned amongst the 50 projects reviewed as well as in the institutional mapping of donors in coastal adaptation, looking at lessons learnt.

The policy recommendations made as part of this Blue Urban Agenda are also to remembered for our future SIDS projects.

Perfect. Thanks Christophe.

Thank you. Very useful.

I am looking for articles or reports on the expected impacts that adherence to the Paris COP 21 may have on SIDS in terms of opportunities and challenges (economic, environmental and social). If anyone knows of such reports, please let me know. Thank you.

Hello Rajesh,

I hope your colleagues from SIDS countries will be able to join this discussion and provide you resources.

I personally think that your question can be raised in the broader global dynamic on sustainable development that led to a better recognition of SIDS special case since 2014 with:

We could add to this list the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 also adopted in 2014.

Then the early mobilisation of SIDS for the Climate Paris Agreement has been key to its entry to effect. The document attached that I just found "The Paris Agreement on Climate Change: Implications for Small Island Developing States: Will it Save Tuvalu?" does not fully answer your query but it looks at the various key chapters and indicates + and - for SIDS. I like the slides 27-28on the implications of the Paris Agreement for SIDS and indeed the biggest one might be that "Greater mitigation effort by all countries gives SIDS a better chance of surviving climate change".

Finally, the publication page of the SIDS section of the Sustainable Development Knowledge platform provides numerous documents you might want to look at.

I hope your query will generate more specific and concrete feedback from colleagues and partners.
