Project Environment

The sun, sea, nature and history combine to form a very popular resort, highlighted by some of the cleanest beaches in the Mediterranean. Because of the archaeological and natural riches of the area, Antalya is also known as the Turkish Riviera.The 630km shoreline of the province is liberally scattered with ancient cities, harbours, memorial tombs and beaches, secluded coves and lush forests, many of which are easily accessible from the city. With its palm-lined boulevards, internationally-acclaimed marina, and old castle with traditional architecture, all set amidst a modern city, Antalya is a major tourist centre in Turkey. In addition to the wide selection of hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and shops, the city also plays host to a number of sporting events throughout the year, like international beach volleyball, triathlon, golf tournaments, archery, tennis and canoeing competitions.

The volunteers will have an opportunity to participate in the activites of euromed Youth Centre and International Mediterranean Youth Festival which have taken place with the participation of the students of Akdeniz University and their guests from abroad. We aim to pass those values on to the next young generation, provide them with an opportunity to get to know each other, and to strengthen their ties of friendship.

The Volunteers will have a monthly programme which will be include regular meetings and project activities. The volunteers will support foundation activities, and will also be encouraged to implement their own ideas. The volunteers also will have a chance to be member of ınternational youth clubs at the university.

It will be different from other students clubs target group as the volunteer will have a chance to work directly with the disadvantaged group of young people.

Tasks and responsibilities of volunteers:

- Preparation free movie nights for the children who are cancer in the Akdeniz University Hospital
- Organising competitions with the students for the children
- Helping to organise regular ınternational youth club and EVS info days
- Organising Networking between youth clubs and young people,
- Organising handicraft activities to support young people who have fewer opportunities,
- Helping to organise the celebration of special days, ( new year,welcome days,orientation programmes)
- Helping to teach teaching techniques for cooking, cleaning...etc. to our target group.
- Helping with office work: e-mailing, preparing materials for activities.
- Communication with local and regional bodies
- Intercultural activites for the children who are in the Akdeniz University Hospital
- Organising workshops and presentations for the children (different topics)

Supporting Buddy System :This is the system by which we match Turkish students with Foreign students with the aim at helping the students who came to Akdeniz University under the terms of the EU Education And Youth Programs, as well as the Farabi Exchange Programme organised by the Akdeniz University International Relations Office. In this way, our Turkish students have both the opportunity to develop their knowledge of foreign languages, and to meet new friends. They also have an opportunity to acquire more information about the exchange program.
Academic Consultancy Service - International Youth Community

Support for Responsibility for the Academic Consultancy Service: has been given to the International Youth Club which organizes voluntary activities for our international students who use the exchange programs, as well as the EU Education And
Youth Programs (Erasmus, EVS, Leonardo, Comenius, Grundtvig, Youth) and within the context of the Farabi Exchange Programme, all of which contribute to expansion of the activities coordinated by our side.

Support for Organising Cultural Trips: Every year Cultural Trips (Historical and Touristic Places) are organized with the support of our University´s International Relations Office for International Students, the EU Education And Youth Programmes (Erasmus, EVS, Leonardo, Comenius, Grundtvig, Youth) and within the context of theFarabi Change Program, for the benefit of the students who participate in these programmes.Within this context trips will be organized to:Cappadocia,Pamukkale,Black Sea,Antalya and the surrounding area
Free Conversation Classes in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian

Organising Free Conversation Classes: in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. These classes, which are organised within the context of the EU Education and Youth Programmes and the European Voluntary Service Program by the International Relationship Office, are now open. ( ıt depends on the volunteers nations every year)

We would like to host volunteers, who are familiar with activities to support young people who have fever opportunities. The volunteer should be active in organizing sport activities, eager to lead the youth groups and keen to take part in the activities of our organization. It is important that volunteer is communicative and easy going, because everyday we meet people of various ages and backgrounds.

It would be helpful if volunteer knows how to communicate with young people and can participate in youth work. The volunteer should be keen to learn new things, and be flexible and tolerant. We expect to host volunteers who are open minded, sociable, eager to teach and learn, curious, able to describe their experiences and easily adaptable.

Our offiice team are experienced we are able to observe changes in a volunteer's emotional state and provide support if needed.

EVS volunteers will be informed about all safety arrangement in his/her flat, in the office and all other places. EVS volunteers will have AXA insurance, and will be informed about the emergency services contact and places in our town (police, fire station, hospital, etc.). They will be provided with a mobile phone which will ensure permanent contact with the office.

Volunteers will have the constant help and support of their mentor, who will be his/her contact person and be available to help the volunteer adapt to their new environment. We will be in contact with the volunteer before the project starts to learn about his/her fears and expectations. It will be mostly done by e-mail correspondence and calls to the volunteers. We will be happy to encourage our future volunteers to ask us as much as possible about the project and local conditions as it can contribute a great deal to conflict prevention during the project.

Upon arrival, the volunteer will be informed and made conversant with the rules of communication, living together and working in our community. The EVS volunteer will live on campus, which means that he or she will meet young people, both Turkish and from other nationalities.

We want to welcome people who are over 18 years old, because we cannot provide the specialised care needed for anyone younger. We will try to create a friendly atmosphere for volunteers to help them feel comfortable as much as possible. We will be flexible in our approach to mutual cooperation and support for the EVS volunteer during the adaptation process, and getting involved in their new community.

SENDING ORGANISATION
Volunteer profiles and recruitment process:
We would like to send volunteers who are well-motivated to be EVS volunteers. Our volunteers will be informed before their arrival about teamwork, the themes of the project, and learning to respect other people's cultures so they can bring many of their own ideas to set up activities .Our motivation as a sending organisation is to provide young people with opportunities to explore different realities, experience, a new overview and learning opportunities. Young people can gain rich new experiences from life abroad, particularly in the field of activities and educational experience which bring added value back to the sending organisation by offering new perspectives and ideas, as well as living experiences to share and promote. Our role in sending volunteers on EVS abroad means to us a kind of investment in the future of young people not only from the local community, but also the region, and brings potential innovation and development of the organisation itself through the involvement of ex-EVS volunteer in post EVS work.

Risk prevention, protection and safety:
We will inform volunteers about their responsibilities and opportunities in the EVS Programme.Before sending/hosting the volunteers, we will complete all the necessary procedures. the activity agreement will be prepared and sined by the sending hosting organisation as well as by the volunteer.In case of the emergency , we will immediately contact the host organisation to try and help the volunteers to maintain their motivation. In case of needed we will contact with the Turkish NA.



Motivation and EVS experience

Our EL reference code is 2007-TR-109. Since 2007 we are sending, Hosting and Coordinating Organisation. So far we hosted 18 volunteers as well as send up to 20 volunteer abroud. In pursuit of our goal of becoming a world-class university which is capable of fulfilling all the demands of an effective internationalization strategy;

To develop an appropriate and sustainable internationalisation strategy,
To design and implement an international student recruitment strategy for our university,
To actively work towards increasing the number of international students,
To coordinate the mobility of our students, academic staff and administrative staff,
To put into practice the standards and principles of the Bologna Process,
To provide information on issues related to education and youth to students of Akdeniz University,
To establish a framework within which we can obtain the maximum benefit from international programmes and projects,
To monitor the coordination of international agreements in fields such as; international cooperation, double degree programmes and exchange programmes,
To pursue active participation in all activities that promote our university’s involvement in the field of international cooperation,
To publicise within our university the international facilities of our partner universities.

Our vision is to become an office which puts into practice the internationalization strategies of our university effectively and in a sustainable way, to be attuned to the new conditions of the higher education system in the field of internationalization, and to make the best contribution we can to Akdeniz University’s internationalization strategy.

Description of the organisation

The International Relations Office was thereby established as the link between the International Relations Coordinator and the offices created to represent the 6 main fields of activity; the EU Education and Youth Programme, International Cooperation and Publicity,the Bologna Process, Mevlana Programme, International Students and Farabi Programme. In addition, in order to ensure an efficient level of communication for all internationalization activities, the 6th floor of the Rectorate Building has been established as a dedicated location where all of the main units dealing with international relations can be brought together under the title; “The International Relations Office”.

The institutional structuring of the International Relations Office, European Union Education and Youth Programmes, International Cooperation and Publicity, the Bologna Process, the Farabi Programme and the Mevlana Programme has enabled us to define the positions and roles of the staff members, as well as the institutional identity and the aims of the Internationalization Strategy Board and the International Relations Coordination Board.
