1. Project environment:
The environment of our activities will be the CAF office, which is located in one of the most popular areas of Tirana, only ten minutes walk from the centre of the city. Our office, which is situated on the first floor, is easily accessed by our partners, beneficiaries and communitiy volunteers, each of which offers a diverse range of qualities and talents.
CAF has got four full time staff members that will be present and committed to provide their direct support to the EVS volunteers. In addition, they will be provided extra support by the metors, our community volunteers and external experts.
CAF has got a clear strategy for ensuring the volunteers’ integration into the working and living environment. Regarding the working place, we have designed an oreientation program which offers: introduction to the CAF staff, volunteers and other supporting individuals; introduction to office premises and main resources; introduction to the CAF programs, projects, mission and vision and especially experience with promotion of volunteerism at local, national and international level; a special training upon their arrival and task related training clarifying their role, rights and responsibilitis and various task related issues that will continue also during the other months based on their needs. Various CAF publications, other books, SALTO booklets and manuals as well as related websites will also be used as very useful resources.
Moreover, in order to facilitate their life and integration into the local community, we will provide them with Albanian language lessons through an intensive language course during the first three months that will be delivered in the CAF office either every day of the week or three days a week. They will also be supported with books and other materials in order to facilitate the learning process.
Our strategy for the integration of the volunteers into the local comunity includes a number of other actions. They will be assigned one or two mentors from the local community who are closely related to CAF that will show them around and introduce them to the local environment. They will meet them very often and will share with them helpful information about life, culture, traditions, sports and other activities as well as valuable suggestions and recommendations. They will also be introduced to other community volunteers who will provide their valuable support to their learning and integration process. CAF will also organize a series of orienetation activities and will serve as a linking bridge for the EVS volunteers.
In addition, volunteers will be supported to get the visa and residence permit within the first three months of their stay in Albania and for this they will need to bring with them a personal and a family certificate and a passport. The procedures include registration at the imigration office and at the police department of Tirana.
The office is 80 m² and it possesses all the necessary equipment. More specifically, there are 4 computers for the full time staff and 4 extra computers that can be used by the volunteers, 10 tables and many chairs, 2 printers and photocoy machines, 3 book shelves, 4 white boards of different sizes, 1 fridge, 1 coffee machine, 2 heaters, and many other facilities . There is also a phone line, fax and an unlimited internet connection that can be used by volunteers throughout their service.
The flat or house where the volunteers will be accommodated will be in a safe and nice area of Tirana city with very good access to public transportation and internet and all the necessary living facilities. It will contain two fully equipped bedrooms, one kitchen with all the cooking facilities such as oven, mikrowave, fridge, etc., one living room with a TV, heaters, phone line and internet connection, coaches and tables, one library with Albanian and English books, one bathroom with a washing machine and many other necessary accessories, one balcony and one hall. Therefore, volunteers will not need to bring or buy anything for the house.
The project coordinator, a community volunteer and the mentor will make sure through frequent contacts and visits that the volunteers receive all the needed support and facilities, such asequipment repair, etc. In addition, in order to make sure that the volunteers take care of the flat/house where they live, they will sign an agreement/contract with clear rules, rights and responsibilities.
In order to ensure frequent and continuous contact with volunteers, each of them will be provided with an Albanian SIM card and 1000 Leke per month as well as the internet connection at home.
Regarding food facilities, the house will be surrounded by varios supermarkets, restaurants and fastfoods and very close to the vegetables and fruits market, all of which offer a variety of choices for cheap and quality food. Each of the volunteers will receive each month 170 EURO in cash (120 EURO for food and 50 EURO for pocket money) by signing an official receipt/document, which does not require the volunteers to prove what they have bought. Therefore, volunteers can choose to eat outside at a cheap restaurant or to cook at home with all the cooking facilities provided.
Their working environment will include primary and secondary school premises in Tirana, Librazhd District and Rubik community, where there is a high concentration of disadvantaged groups of children and youth. They are schools with no risks of drugs or alcohool use or abuse and their administrators and pedagogical staff highly value any kind of support provided.
Tirana is the capital and the largest city of Albania. Modern Tirana was founded as an Ottoman town in 1614 by Sulejman Bargjini, a local ruler from Mullet. Tirana became Albania’s capital city in 1920 and has a population of about 1,000 000 inhabitants. The city is host to public institutions and private universities, and is the centre of the political, economical, and cultural life of the country. Tirana has a rich mosaic of historic land natural landmarks. The town and surrounding area is home to many natural and historical sites, such as: Tirana Castle, Clock Tower of Tirana, Tabak bridge, National Historical Museum, Blloku (the night life area of the city), and so on.
The public transportation has been improved and there are various arts, sports and cultural institutions and events. There are also various cafés situated throughout the city as well as internet centers. The prices vary from 0.5 EURO for a coffee to 1 EURO for a Cola and other types of refreshments, 1-3 EURO for different beers and 1 to 5 EURO for fastfood depending on the menu and the location.
The local currency is Leke and 1 EURO equals 140 Leke (varying from 135 to 140).
Rubik is a municipality located in the central-north of Albania in the mountainous Mirdita District along national roadway SH30 which links Tirana/Lezha County with Rreshen/Kukes and the new A1/SH5 Albania-Kosovo Highway. The Municipality governs a total surface area of 107 km² and consists of the city of Rubik at its center and eleven peripheral villages.
Even though Rubik is a small town, it has got various historical and cultural sites and events which attract the attention of all the visitors. People are hospitable and appreciate any kind of volunteer support, having received volunteers from the Peace Corps for a number of years.
The District of Librazhd is one of the thirty-six districts of Albania, part of Elbasan County. It has a population of 63,192 (2010 estimate), and an area of 1,023 km2 (395 sq mi). It is in the east of the country, and its capital and administrative center is Librazhd.
Librazhd district is characterized by a mountainous landscape with scenic valleys, including glacial valleys above 1,500 feet (460 m) in the Polis Mountains. The Shkumbin River is sourced in and traverses through the district. Most of the villages have got a rich historical and cultural background and organize various cultural events dressed in their special traditional costumes. People are hospitable and are ready to offer any kind of support to the visitors and are very grateful to people who offer their support to the improvement of their education, social and cultural life.
2. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:
CAF is highly committed to provide all the needed facilities and opportunities for the volunteers to successfully complete their voluntary service by acquiring new knowledge and skills and contributing to the improvement of skills and capacity of the children and youth they will work with. Involvement in the project will help them grow personally and professionally and deepen their understanding and respect for the local culture and values as well as share cultural values of their own country.
More specifically, during their voluntary service, the young volunteers will be supported to learn and acquire:
• new skills in working in a multicultural environment
• new skills in organizing various recreational activities for children and youth in the target schools and communities
• improved cooperation, coordination and organizational skills
• a better image of Albania and Albanian people and a positive attitude toward Albanian culture
• new skills in promoting volunteerism in the project schools and communities and back in their countries with the support of their SOs
• skills to understand and appreciate differences and intercultural cooperation, hence avoid discrimination and exclusion
• basic knowledge of Albanian language through an intensive course of 3 months and additional training if needed
Role of EVS volunteers:
The young volunteers will play an important role in the project target schools and communities as well as in the CAF office. They will be actively involved in various project activities with school children and youth as well as teachers and community members and will also be encouraged and supported to organize new activities with children and youth in the target areas.
Some of the main activities that the EVS volunteers will carry out during the project are:
• Various recreational and outdoor activities with and for disadvantaged children and youth in the target schools and communities in order to enrich and improve their school and community life including arts, cultural and sports activities
• Workshops on English language as well as discussion or debate groups in order to help school children improve their English skills and knowledge about the country and culture of the volunteers and vice versa
• Workshops on developing basic computer competencies
• Arts and crafts
• Meetings and workshops with student government/councils on how to develop their plan of activities based on students’ needs and organize participatory activities
• Meetings and workshops with Students’ Volunteer Groups to introduce them to various fund-raising methods and effective ways of organizing voluntary work in their school and community
• Awareness campaigns for promoting YiA Program in general and EVS in particular
• Activities that support establishment of a friendly and welcoming school environment such as: painting of inner school and classroom walls, decoration of classrooms and other school premises, planting of flowers and trees in the school yard, animation, preparation of posters on various social, environmental, health and educational topics, etc.
For all the activities volunteers will introduce and use non-formal education methods. They will be accompanied throughout the time by CAF staff members and they will be highly encouraged and supported to design and run their own activities.
They will also be encouraged to carry out a number of activities in the CAF office such as:
• Updating the CAF website www.caf-albania.org with information from the project activities and other important events
• Establishing a specific social network account for the promotion of their own voluntary project supported by CAF
• Preparing reports on the activities implemented in the target schools or communities
• Supporting CAF staff members on designing projects and fund-raising
• Designing their own project that might be implemented in Albania or back in their country after their EVS Service
In addition, the volunteers can work in promoting Youth in Action programme, Children and Youth Rights, European Citizenship and Social Inclusion. Their involvement in common activities with CAF members will add value to our work and activities, and will strengthen intercultural cooperation among them.
They can also help in the CAF office by providing their support and ideas for new projects, fund raising activities and a number of workshops and trainings. Even though this is not obligatory, we are confident that involvement in these and the other activities will help them acquire new skills and strengthen their capacity for future work positions.
In order to ensure a continuous learning, as well as a personal, social and professional growth and development of volunteers, they will be provided with continuous training, support, consultation and monitoring by the CAF staff members, mentors, other local volunteers and external CAF experts. This process will start with an orientation week, which will combine introduction sections and specific training, task related training, etc. that will continue based on their needs and priorities.
Specific training will also be provided by the project coordinator and other CAF staff members on how to effectively do their activities by sharing previous experiences and effective methods, and providing helpful information and referring materials.
In addition, the volunteers will be introduced to the Youth Pass Certificate and its eight competencies, for which they will be supported to develop during their Voluntary Service. Each of them will be encouraged to individually complete their forms by monitoring their own progress in the main competencies related to their work such as: language skills, team work, mathematical skills, computer skills, social and intercultural skills. Regarding language skills, they will receive an intensive training course on the Albanian language and the workshops with school children in English will improve their English language competencies as well as intercultural skills. In addition, they will be advised on how to manage their financial income during their service what will help them improve their mathematical and financial management skills. Their progress will be monitored and assessed by the project coordinator and other related CAF representatives through weekly and monthly meetings and discussions. In addition, volunteers will prepare monthly reports on the activities that they have carried out, challenges and difficulties faced, as well as their learning and achievement during that period of time.
We should emphasize that volunteers will be provided with CAF support throughout their service, as there is no annual complete closure.
CAF will be responsible to follow all the guidelines of the EVS Charter and also provide the EVS with the information and opportunity to access the Training Cycle that is in cooperation with SALTO SEE. If necessary we will also make use of the support that the Contact Point office of Youth in Action in Tirana offers for all the associations who work with the YiA programme.
Volunteers will work 35 hours per week and will be granted the weekend and 2 days per month off as advised from the program. We will provide them with enough means to live (Food and Pocket money) that will be delivered in due time each beginning of the month. Nevertheless, all of these will be previously discussed with the SO and the volunteers and will be agreed and signed in the Activity Agreement. Volunteers will spend 80% of their working time in the CAF office and 20% out of office, in the field (in the target schools and communities, where they will be accompanied by CAF members through ensured transport)
A sample weekly plan of activities for an EVS volunteer at CAF would be as follows:
- Reflection over the previous week activities, challenges and difficulties encountered as well as achievement
- Discussion and preparation of a plan for the new week and consultation of supporting materials
- Training course on Albanian language
- Updating the CAF website with information from the implemented activities
- Updating FACEBOOK account with information and photos from their own project activities
- Providing logistic support to CAF staff such as: preparation of training packages, etc.
- Preparation and discussion with project coordinator and other related CAF staff in the office over project activities that will be implemented in the field during the field visit
- Discussion and work on a new project idea designed by the volunteer
- Research on the project idea and activities through consultation with CAF supporting materials and other manuals and websites
- Training course on Albanian language
- Field trip to the project area
- Meetings and organization of planned activities
- Returning trip to Tirana
-Reflection on the field visit together with the project coordinator and other CAF staff
- Preparation of a short field visit report
- Completion of the gained competencies form based on the Youth Pass Certificate guidelines and discussion with the project coordinator and other related staff to discuss progress achieved
-Training course on the Albanian language
Besides the working days, CAF related staff members, their mentors and other local volunteers will take care of the EVS volunteers also during their free time. Especially during the weekend there will be organized visits to different cities of Albania, popular cultural and archaeological sites, historical museums as well as beautiful mountainous and coastal areas. There will also be organized a number of entertainment activities with all the EVS volunteers, local volunteers and CAF staff members in order to strengthen their relationships and cooperation. In addition, the volunteers will be accompanied to various cultural and sports activities in the city by their mentors and other local volunteers.
3. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process:
Taking into consideration the target groups and goal of our project, we would like to receive volunteers that possess a number of skills and qualities, of course, trying to provide equal opportunities to everyone.
Even though we have listed a number of skills below, we do not expect the volunteers to be experts, as we will provide training upon their arrival and during their service and various learning opportunities, but we would highly appreciate their sense of cooperation and positive attitude. Above all, we would be highly interested in volunteers who are willing to learn and develop.
A few skills or qualities that would be highly appreciated are as follows:
• Interest in the local community, culture and development
• Like working with children and for them
• Willing to understand the situation in the target schools and communities and provide their contribution through various project activities during their service as volunteers
• are interested in learning about the local culture and exchange cultural values with school children and young people in the target communities
• respect diversity and are interested in supporting various marginalized groups in remote rurals areas as well as urban ones
• demonstrate good communication and cooperation skills or are willing to find ways and accept support to strengthen them
• possess at least basic knowledge of English
• are tolerant and eager to adjust to a new environment
Regarding volunteers with fewer opportunities, we will pay a great attention and provide high priority to them during the recruitment process. As described above, we will provide all the knowledge, experience and expertise in order to give them equal chances to be selected and supported throughout their service.
Regarding age, we would like to host volunteers from 20 to 30 years old, as they will have to work with children and youth with fewer opportunities and will certainly need some experience and good understanding. We will try to ensure gender balance through the selection process and throughout the voluntary service by offering equal opportunities to males and females.
Therefore, all the young people from Europe that possess a willingness and the above qualities can apply to our call for volunteers and they will be selected through a transparent and fair process.
Regarding partnership with sending organizations, based on our partnership experience, we would prefer to continue working with our existing partners, and also extend our cooperation with other new organizations that have common interests and goals and are reliable and responsible. We would highly value the role of the sending organizations in informing and preparing the volunteers with the needed knowledge for their service and following-up their progress and development.
We will share our calls for partners and volunteers with different networks and mail lists and will publsih them through various social networkds in order to offer equal opportunities to all.
4. Number of volunteers hosted:
Even though CAF is new to the EVS Program, its staff members and supporters possess a rich knowledge about it and also a long experience in promoting volunteerism at local, national and international level. Also our experience in the YiA program through the implementation of a training project called “Promoting Volunteering Among Youth” with young people from 11 European countries, and participation in a seminar organized by the YiA contact point in Albania as well as three other training courses as partners in Portugal, Macedonia and Montenegro have increased our understanding, as well as our willingness, commitment and confidence in the ability to successfully host volunteers and implement related projects.
In addition, involvement of four full time staff members with their rich educafional and professional background along with other mentors and community volunteers gives us the ability to supervise, support and actively engage four volunteers by ensuring quality, continuous learning and their welfare.
5. Risk prevention, protection and safety:
CAF has a long and successful experience of cooperation with youth organizations from different European countries such as Netherlands, whose representatives have come to Albania to work as volunteers to support schools and communities where CAF works. During this cooperation we have strengthened our capacity to manage various issues related to accommodation, coordination of work and arrangement of activities.
All the volunteers will be accommodated in safe apartments or neighbourhoods close to the CAF office and center of the city. In addition, they will receive mentoring and advice from our senior management team and will have very frequent contacts and consultation meetings with our EVS contact person what will help preventing potential risks and crises.
In addition, CAF has got experts with a very rich pedagogical and psychological background that can offer volunteers advice, valuable recommendations and support. In order to avoid home sickness, CAF will provide the volunteers with the opportunity to be in a frequent contact with them through pre-paid phone cards and internet connection at home which will make possible communication through SKYPE and any other electronic program. In case of homesickness, they will be given the permission and support to visit their home.
Regarding the age of volunteers, we have got a successful experience of working with young people from 20 to 30 years old and would like to concentrate on this age group.
All the volunteers will be enrolled under the Insurance plan that is covered by AXA and will be provided with the needed information on how to use it upon their arrival. As explained above, all the volunteers will be supported to get the visa and residents permit within the first three months of their stay in Albania and there is no risk of them to become illegal in the country. Based on its policies, in all the projects, CAF ensures a very good cooperation with the related authorities. Therefore, at the beginning of the EVS project, all the regional authorities will be provided with the necessary information what will facilitate the visa and the accommodation process.
Moreover, we will appoint the Mentors to the EVS that shall also play a crucial role in their risk prevention and safety, by being a link among them and us as responsible for their welfare. Mentors will be selected among our local volunteers who are students of social sciences, psychology, pedagogy etc, and possess very good communication, cooperation, and conflict management skills that convert them into real support points to volunteers. They will be very close to them and will meet them often sharing any kind of needed information about the local area and facilities as well as listening to their concerns and providing advice and support. In addition, volunteers will be equipped with the necessary addresses and phone numbers in case of emergency and for any issue related the Project Supervisor will always be available to support them.
When speaking about crises or any conflictual experience we can assure that our staff has the full potential and capacity to support and solve the issues. The volunteers can be offered expert advice and support whenever needed. Our staff members that will work closely with the EVS are able to support in crises solution or any intercultural shock happening to the volunteers.
Regarding risks of drugs use or abuse, CAF has got a zero tolerance policy, which does not allow CAF representatives, volunteers or any other people working with our organization to use them. In addition, alcohol is prohibited during the working hours. These and other CAF rules and policies as well as code of conduct will be explained to the volunteers upon their arrival.
6. Special needs:
Having been working with children and youth from marginalized groups in some of the most disadvantaged communities, CAF representatives have gained a deep understanding of their needs as well as the knowledge and skills to address them effectively. We have also gained the knowledge and experience to actively involve children and youth with fewer opportunities in various projects aiming at the improvement of their own life and that of the school or community where they live.
Therefore, CAF is open and highly committed to the involvement of volunteers with fewer opportunities such as: social obstacles, educational difficulties, geographical and economic obstacles and cultural differences, and we are confident that we have got the experience and capacity to properly accommodate and support their learning, integration and development process throughout their service.
More specifically, we can support young volunteers with social obstacles by offering direct personal support for a quick and natural integration. In addition, based on the pedagogocal background and expertise of many of the CAF staff and other external experts we can support integration, active involvement and development of volunteers with educational difficulties by adapting various activities, training and support methods to their needs and learning style.
CAF has also got the capacity to accommodate and support young volunteers with geographical and economic obstacles, as we have been doing this for a number of years through our projects implemented in some of the most remote, isolated and poor rural communities of Albania where we have managed to actively involve a large number of children and young people by encouraging their growth and development. In order to decrease the burden of economic obstacles, CAF will cover also the additional 10% of the travel cost and will offer additional facilities in terms of clothing and living conditions.
Regarding cultural differences, CAF staff members and other supporters possess a long experience, knowledge and competences to organize various intercultural activities that contribute to a better understanding and respect for cultural diversity, hence cooperation and social inclusion.
Our local volunteers will also serve as a great support together with our external experts. We will also refer to the long and successful experience of Beyond Barriers as a contact point in Albania who have been providing helpful information, orientation and support to a number of Albanian organizations.
“Fëmijët Janë e Ardhmja” (FJA) or “Children Are the Future” (CAF) is a non-profit, Development Organization that works to create better lives for children and youth and equal opportunities for their development. We are highly committed to contribute toward a world in which all children and youth are respected and valued and where they can realize their full potential. We deeply believe in their rights, talents and capacity to play an important role in the development and democratization process in their communities and at large, therefore we encourage and support their active participation and citizenship.
Based on its mission, goal and objectives, CAF highly values the importance of YiA program in general and EVS in particular to the personal, social and professional growth and development of young people. This is why we are highly motivated to participate in the European Voluntary Service as a Host, and Coordinating Organization.
Even though this is the first time that our organization is applying to participate in EVS, CAF team has a very good experience in the development and promotion of voluntary work at various levels. We have been organizing voluntary work with children, youth and other community members in schools and communities as an integral part of various awareness-raising, capacity-building and development projects.
More specifically, Voluntary Groups have been established in some of the schools where CAF is operating, which provide their support to children with learning difficulties, children from low-income families, people with disabilities and elderly people in their communities. In addition, in our current “School-Family-Community Partnership” Project we have been focused on volunteering as an effective way of parent involvement in their children’s education and in the improvement and democratization of the school life.
We have also been encouraging and supporting intercultural learning and exchanges between Albanian children and youth in remote rural areas and European young volunteers that come to support Albanian schools and communities. This has been through short visits and cooperation with MARA, a Dutch Youth Foundation that has increased our coordination and management capacity and has strengthened our belief in the importance of voluntarism among youth to the development of a more tolerant, cooperative, responsible and active young generation, hence a more tolerant, inclusive and democratic European society.
In addition, CAF has successfully implemented a Training Course within the Youth in Action Program called “Promoting Volunteering Among Youth” with participants from 10 different countries, where all the participants learned about EVS, its aims and objectives, rights and responsibilities, and various other important elements. They provided very positive feedback during the evaluation process and emphasized their interest in participating in EVS in a very near future. They also encouraged CAF to apply as a host organization and highly valued the whole training as a great learning experience.
Furthermore, implementation of another project called “Color the Summer” through a very close cooperation with a group of Dutch young people in an Albanian rural school was a great learning experience for CAF, which has enriched our skills and capacity to further develop voluntary work and cooperate with other European youth and Albanian communities.
“Children Are the Future” (CAF) is a non-profit Organization with no religious, political or governmental affiliations that works to create better lives for children and youth and equal opportunities for their development. CAF is mostly focused on poor, remote, rural areas and communities of Albania, where children, youth, their families and local institutions have fewer opportunities, hence more needs for support and interventions.
Our target groups include children and youth from disadvantaged groups and communities, teachers, parents and other community members.
Based on our mission and objectives, our main activities are focused on Child and Youth Rights and participation, including awareness-raising campaigns, workshops, seminars and trainings with students, teachers, parents, other community members and Local Government representatives; Education Improvement; Strengthening of Student leading structures and School Boards; Increasing students’ participation and active role in the improvement and democratization of school, family and community life; Teacher training on effective techniques of communication, problem-solving and co-operation with students that avoid punishment or any other forms of violence and discrimination, and engage students’ creativity and commitment; Strengthening School-Family-Community co-operation; Improvement of School environment; Enrichment of school and community life; Development of voluntary work in schools and communities; Gender Equality, Child and Community Development including capacity building trainings and seminars, recreational activities, vocational training and various development projects.
Some of the main donors that have supported the successful implementation of CAF projects are: OSCE Presence in Albania, Austrian Development Cooperation in Albania, OSFA-SOROS, OSI/OSF-Budapest, EACEA, MARA Foundation Netherlands, MTO-Poland, CEC-Citizens for Engaged Communities, and so on. Through a close cooperation with all the beneficiaries and various actors and stakeholders including also the local government, CAF has been successfully organizing a number of projects, some of which are briefly described below:
“Mobilising Community: Joint Action to End Poverty” is a one-year project that is being implemented with the financial support of EU and OSI/OSF-Budapest. The project was designed and is being implemented through a partnership of 8 national partner organizations from 8 European countries: Hungary, Germany, Italy, Romania, Austria, Albania, Croatia and Latvia. CAF is the Albanian national partner that is ensuring an active involvement and empowerment of 10 other Albanian education grassroots organizations from Durres, Elbasan, Librazhd and Tirana regions. By strengthening the mediating role of grassroots organisations in a participatory process, the project aims to empower citizens and especially representatives of marginalized groups to engage in dialogue with the local stakeholders and work towards cross-sectorial, holistic community approaches that can be shared and adapted to various European contexts.
“Color the Summer Project” is a new project, whose first phase was successfully implemented in an Albanian joint-secondary rural school of Librazhd district through a very close cooperation of a group of 6 young Dutch volunteers and CAF. It aimed at the improvement and creation of a friendly and welcoming school environment through promotion of voluntary work of children, youth and other community members. The project also contained English workshops and various sports and recreational activities which had a positive impact on the participating children and youth.
In addition, through a very long and close co-operation with MARA Foundation Netherlands and their visits to CAF project areas, we have created the opportunity for Albanian students to exchange experiences with Dutch students and learn from their long and successful experience of volunteering at national and international level. Moreover, through MARA support, we have been supplying a number of schools with various educational and play material, which have contributed to the improvement of the teaching and learning process.
“Development of Public Achievement Program” is a project that is being implemented through a close cooperation and partnership between CAF and MTO, a Polish organization, and with the financial support of CEC “Citizens for Engaged Communities, North Carolina, USA” and Charles Merril Foundation. The Public Achievement Program is a civic engagement initiative for young people, which aims to provide them with a democracy framework in order to gain citizenship skills by doing work of real importance in their schools and communities. This project also emphasizes that young people have the potential to address society’s problems and build a stronger community for everyone.
“School-Family-Community Partnership, key element of success in education” is a one-year project that was successfully implemented during June 2012 – June 2013 with the financial support of Open Society Foundation in Albania. It aimed at strengthening the partnership between school, family and community in the two target communities and raising awareness and advocacy at community, district and national level on its importance to the improvement of education quality, students’ motivation, commitment and achievement.
“Promoting Volunteering Among Youth” is an international project that was successfully implemented in 2011 through a partnership with 10 organizations from different countries of Europe within the YiA Program. It aimed at raising awareness and deepening understanding among youth from 10 EU and SEE countries of the values and importance of volunteering to the enrichment of their personal, social and professional skills and competencies, as well as to the development of the whole community. CAF got very positive notes of appreciation by all the participants and urged us to increase our participation in the YiA and specifically EVS Program.
“Strengthening School-Family-Community Cooperation and Partnership” is a comprehensive two year project that was successfully completed by CAF in two primary and secondary schools in the North and South-East of Albania with the financial support of Open Society Foundation for Albania-SOROS. The project aimed at the strengthening of school-family-community co-operation and the increase of parents’ active involvement. Encouragement of parents’ involvement through volunteering was one of the most innovative ideas and activities that had a very positive impact on parents’ attitudes toward their children’s role and capacity and school as a whole.
“Children Are the Future” was established in October 2008 and it was registered in May 2009.
Its administrative structure includes a board of five distinguished people with a rich educational and professional background in the fields of education, child and youth development, arts, health and engineering.
The executive and implementation team include the executive director, three other full time managers and coordinators, one part time driver and one part time administrative and financial assistant as well as 6 community volunteers.
The linear structure of our organization as well as the educational and professional background of its representatives will encourage and facilitate a direct and active involvement of all the CAF staff and supporters with the EVS volunteers.
More specifically, the project coordinator and the other CAF staff members possess a very rich experience in project designing, monitoring, implementation, management and evaluation and above all a long and successful experience of working with young people from different backgrounds. In addition, their educational background and continuous training and qualifications have strengthened their communication, cooperation and management skills and have provided them with a high capacity to provide various types of pedagogical, social and psychological support not only to children and young people but also to other community members and beneficiaries. Moreover, their skills, knowledge and attitudes help them build and maintain very good relationships with young people and other project beneficiaries and stakeholders, which will ensure a successful cooperation with, integration and development of the EVS volunteers.
Also the local volunteers who will serve as mentors and direct supporters are students of social sciences, psychology, pedagogy, computer sciences and law that are led by a great will, desire and commitment to work as volunteers in various projects and provide their guidance and support to the EVS volunteers.
