Gyumri city is the second biggest city in Armenia, which is located in the North part of it. The weather in this area is very dry during the summer months but cold in the winter. Today, it has approximately 169,000 inhabitants. The city is far from the capital Yerevan nearly 120 km. There are 7 churches, cafes, restaurants,1 theatre, 1 cinema, markets, supermarkets. The main local transport is the minibus. The city is far from the capital city Yerevan nearly 120 km. Meghvik (Little Honeybee) non - governmental Organization is located not far from the city centre. It has a big comfortable office with free internet access. The staff working there is very friendly and open- minded. The communicative language is Armenian, but in a case of need English, French and Russian languages are also usable. The organization is open from 9:30 AM to 6 PM everyday beside weekends. The staff working there is very kind and hospitable. In the host place the volunteer will have his/ her own desk with computer connected to internet and printer. In the host place the volunteer will have full access to all available technical facilities and resources, a comfort, safe and secure work environment, the right of free expression of attitude, opinion, suggestions, comments for the voluntary service, as well as the activities of the organization, friendly and equal treatment and support by the staff of the organization, adequate working content consistent with their interests and an non-formal education. During the day the volunteers will work 6 hours. Totally it will be 30 hours per week. The EVS volunteers will also take part in the projects, local youth activities of our supporting organization Federation of Youth Clubs of Armenia (FYCA) with the volunteers of Meghvik organization. Also, during their stay the volunteers will take part with other EVS volunteers in on-arrival and mid-term trainings supported by SALTO EECA. Time by time the supporting will consult the volunteers about opportunities to travel in Armenia and the Caucasus region during the holidays. The apartment where the volunteers will live is not far from the office. The apartment is furnished with furniture, TV set and all the necessary equipments, it has 2 bedrooms, the living-room, kitchen and the bathroom the volunteers will share together. There is also a washing-machine. The apartment has also an internet connection
PROPOSED ACTIVITIES FOR EVS VOLUNTEERS:
Meghvik children and youth organization works with children, teenagers, youth, women and elders. It is a multifunctional organization and provides alternative services to the community members in various ages. With the help of the EVS volunteers the organisation will be able to organize more workshops, discussions, brainstorms for the youth. Also, the volunteers will have possibility to be involved in discussions and seminars about the future of the organization and will be able to share their opinion, relevant experience and skills. Apart from working in the host place the volunteer will have the possibility to join the activities of the Supporting organization and spend their free time with other EVS volunteers and local youth and visit sight seeing places of Armenia. The EVS volunteers will involved in the Administrative department of the centre and the proposed activities are as follows:
- to take part in the discuss/brainstorm of ongoing projects and future projects;
- assist in the PR of the center, update the organization website;
- to take part in the planning and implementation of community actions with the participation of children and youth of various ages;
- twice weekly help the English language trainer to organize English club for children between 14 and 20 years old;
- developing a plan to increase organization involvement in the community activities, discuss recruitment planning;
- assist in the daily work of the teachers and educators of the center;
- to assist in the organization of various local projects (youth projects, summer camps, handwork exhibitions, local events such as puppet theatre performances, leisure activities);
- to assist in the development of promotional materials, posters, booklets.
Additional possible activities for EVS volunteers in the Host place :
- help with coordination and management on event organization and institutional activities;
- help with preparing exhibition space;
- technical support of the events;
- promotion of art events;
- help with design and implementation of educational programs;
- information about the presented exhibitions;
- finding partners on national and international level.
Support of the volunteers will be provided by the staff of the organization and by the community. The volunteer will be invited to social events and will be supported in learning and practicing basic Armenian language, twice a week with 1 hour duration. The volunteer will work 5 days per week with 6 hours duration ( 30 hours) and will have weekends off. But in case of necessity and need the volunteer will join the activities of the Host organization during the weekends too but will have 2 free days during the week. Additionally, she/he will have 2 days off during the month.

Besides all above mentioned activities the volunteer will have a chance to write and post some articles about his/her activities, ideas in the web page of our organisation. This project will have a positive impact on the volunteer life by bringing him/her a rich life experience. S/he will learn by doing. During the work in Meghvik organization the volunteer will obtain interpersonal and social competences, ability to adapt and cope with new challenges, experience team-work with international colleagues, networking skills, coordination and reporting of meetings, work with deadlines, share responsibility for living together with multi-national volunteers. Young people can try themselves in the new context, will understanding diversities and similarities of different cultures and traditions, will have growth of awareness and tolerance, spreading ideas of peace, breaking mental borders through breaking language barrier, exchange of experience, knowledge.
VOLUNTEER PROFILES AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS:
A volunteer should be interested in working with youth and children and socially needy families, willing to learn, ready to processing information, ready to take up reporting activities, eager to develop new skills, decisive and determined, open to try new things. Basic knowledge of English and Russian languages will help volunteers to adapt for tasks project more quickly but knowing these languages does n0t determine selection process of volunteers for EVS service. The selection procedure, which we will hold with the supporting organization FYCA will be based on the principles of equal and easy access and transparency. This key will allow the young people who are really motivated to get the opportunity to be volunteers. Our aim is to avoid the subjective factors of choice. The equal access for participation will ensure that the eligibility criteria are put in the volunteer profile. We think that they are feasible and will be enabled more young people to apply for participation in the Voluntary Service. In the selection of candidates, the volunteers will stick to the volunteer profile, interests and needs to meet the commitments and objectives in respect of which Meghvik organization needs their help and assistance for the acquisition of informal competences.
Meghvik organization will announce vacancies for volunteers via the website of the organization and the supporting organization FYCA.
RISK PREVENTION, PROTECTION AND SAFETY:
During the volunteer time in Armenia, s/he will be allocated with a mentor who will support the volunteer with accommodation issues, registration and other daily events. The volunteer will be insured by AXA and will be informed about how to avoid risky situations, will be provided with a special Info Pack with all necessary emergency phone numbers, main traffic regulations and also public place regulations. The volunteer will be provided before the start of the project with all the necessary and detailed information about the project environment, living and working conditions at the host country. Risk prevention is an open dialogue between both sides. We always encourage our volunteers to criticise and discuss things that they do not like in the project openly and in a friendly atmosphere. If there will be still problems - the mentor will be helping to solve them
Since 2004 we have been working with children and youth from socially needy families, therefore we are open to host volunteers having social, educational problems as well as those coming from rural areas. We have experienced people with good facilitation and motivation skills in order to provide them reinforced mentorship.
The Meghvik (Little Honeybee) is able to host up to 2 EVS volunteers at the same time. The organisation does not intend to make any short-term EVS group projects. The organisation would like to work with volunteers with fewer opportunities such as social, geographical and economic obstacles as well as cultural differences
Meghvik (Little Honeybee) children and youth organization has been established in Gyumri city 1989 at aiming to solve the issues of children and their families in the community and in rural areas. During the years enlarging its activity scopes the organization passed from humanitarian projects to development projects involving socially needy habitants –elders, women , children and youth. During the years Meghvik organization has periodically organized various projects in various spheres such as- agriculture, environment, culture, handwork, theatre performances, IT technologies, social assistance . The young volunteers of the organization have taken part in various local and international activities, seminars, trainings. The Host organization closely cooperate with local and international organizations, host volunteers from Peace Corps, Birthright Armenia organization.
We are interested to participate in European Voluntary Service as Host organisation. During the project, volunteer can get more familiar with Armenian culture, do voluntary work in our organization and learn how to organise non formal education activities. Through EVS our society will learn more about expressions of other cultures, will get to know more about EU and programme `Youth in Action` and will get an idea about voluntary possibilities. EVS will give excellent opportunities on international level for young people.
Meghvik is a multifunctional resource centre providing alternative services to Armenian NGOs and has established shortly after the 1988 earthquake that happened in Gyumri city. Since its creation the organization has done its best to seed patriotism among the Armenian children and the youth. Meghvik children and youth NGO promotes democracy development in Armenia, civil society development, human rights protection, social partnership establishment, insuring cooperation of mutual profitability, improvement of social state of vulnerable groups, strengthening the institutional capacities of initiative groups (NGOs, community groups, unions) through partnership, training, consultation, special events, mediation, material assistance. Areas of expertise are as follows:
- socialization of children and young people through leisure activities, arts, extracurricular activities and youth activities.
- psychological support for children and youth, training in communication skills.
- implementation of cultural and educational activities for children from the town.
- implementation of youth initiatives, campaigns and theatrical activities.
We have implemented more than 70 projects have worked with international organizations plus we have partnership with different local and international organizations. In 1997 Meghvik was the single organization in the community that organized internet training courses for youth. In the near future the organization anticipates to become a social partner with the Ministry of Social Issues and the Ministry of Youth and Sport becoming social alternative centre for elders and children. It is anticipated to enlarge the activities of professional orientation centre for the youth and teens by involving them in the informative technological development projects for which we have preliminary agreement with Shirak Technological company and Professional orientation centre in Gyumri. The organization closely cooperates with a number of local and international organizations: Armenian Social Investment Fund, AAA training and resources Centre, Maternity Fund of Armenia, Armenian Red Cross Company, Peace Corps, Save The Children, , EURASIA FUND, UNDP, UMCOR, USAID, UNICEF, UNFPA, Urban Institute, RA Ministry Job and Social affairs, British Embassy in Armenia, Birthright Armenia. Also, Meghvik organization is one of the member organizations of the EVS Supporting organization Federation of Youth Clubs of Armenia. The centre employs 9 full-time employees and 15 local volunteers. The target group of the organization are the children, young people, socially needy families, women, elders.
