Centere "Ave Copiii" office is situated in the capital of Moldova - Chisinau. Chisinau is the main administrative, economic, scientific and cultural centre of Moldova. The city has just over 700,000 inhabitants and the whole metropolitan area is roughly one million inhabitants. In terms of number of people, Chisinau is the largest city of the country. Chisinau is divided in five administrative sectors; Botanica, Buiucani, Center, Ciocana and Riscani. It is often referred to as the greenest city in Europe due to the high proportion of well maintained green spaces.
PROPOSED ACTIVITIES FOR EVS VOLUNTEERS:
The volunteer will organize leisure time for children. He/She will play different games, go for walks together and work in the interest clubs after school. Volunteers can perform the art and cultural projects together. The volunteers will be given an opportunity to bring their own ideas to the project. S/he will try to help children with the home work for school. The volunteers will be also asked to assist in language classes in an informal way.
The projects should develop an intercultural bridge for the children and support their ability of the communication and positive thinking. It is a great chance for the children to learn more about other countries and different cultures and traditions. During the project the children will have a possibility to open and express themselves and develop their skills and talents. Through constant communication with Moldovan children and the staff, playing national games, singing songs, telling tales etc., the volunteers will receive a unique opportunity to get to know Moldovan culture and probably to discover something new in their own culture by looking at it from another perspective. Dealing with children in the centre, the volunteers will improve their social and communication skills, develop knowledge, hobbies and interests in variety of fields (like handcrafts, dancing, singing etc.) and finally will receive a valuable experience in social work.
The volunteer will work mainly with the age group 6-14. Their main tasks will consist in:
- playing with the children, using his /her creativity and games he/she knows
- assisting the children with their daily needs and responsibilities
- read stories and songs in easy language
- help to organize outings and to lead excursions with children groups
- participate in painting and crafts workshops
- participate in theatre and music groups
The volunteer tasks will be revised upon volunteer arrival according to the current activities of the organization and motivation and abilities of the volunteer.
Volunteer will benefit from intercultural exchange. Doing EVS service in our organisation volunteer will get to know how to teach the children and youth in the centre about tolerance and dealing with other people. Volunteer will give them new inputs and ideas and will be offered an opportunity to get an impression of the work with children and youth.
VOLUNTEER PROFILES AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS:
The main criterion is patience, according to small children and their needs, open-heart, kindness and desire to work with children.
The staff at Centere "Ave Copiii" and its "contact point for EVS", the ADVIT Moldova are used and trained to work together with young people with different social, economical and cultural background. If we host a volunteer with fewer opportunities we request in advance information about his/her background to be able to accommodate volunteer's tasks to the necessities of the volunteer, ADVIT Moldova also provide volunteer with additional mentor and, if needed, organize regular meetings with the psyhologist.
Risk prevention, protection and safety:
Volunteers will be prepared upon their arrival by the hosting organization and its supporting "contact point for EVS" the ADVIT Moldova with regard to: do's and don'ts, rights and responsibilities as EVS volunteers, code of conduct in the host country, cultural differences, possible risks in their daily life and work environment. ADVIT Moldova will ensure safe living conditions.
Centere "Ave Copiii" is ready to host up to 3 EVS volunteers at the same time. The organisation is able to work with volunteers with fewer opportunities such as: social, geographical and economic obstacles, cultural differences, disabilities. The organisation doesn't intend to host short-term group EVS projects.
The Centre is supported by ADVIT Moldova as its "contact point for EVS outside the organisation".
We would like to host international volunteers, because we are interested in an intercultural exchange. We would like to teach the children in our Centre about tolerance and dealing with other people and other cultures. We hope that a volunteer will give us new inputs and ideas and would like to offer the volunteer an opportunity to get an impression of the work with children.
We are hosting EVS and international volunteers from other programmes with help of our "contact point for EVS" - ADVIT Moldova since 2005.
"Safe the Children- Moldova" created and coordinates Centre for Re-socialization of Children Ave Copiii (ex. Casa Aschiuta) that aims to provide children at risk, children victims of abuse, violence or trafficking and their families with social assistance services, psychological services, reintegration services, specialized services.

Besides children that live and work on the streets the project addresses abandoned children or children at risk of abandonment, children that are abused in their family, children with behavioral problems or children at risk.
