Project Environment

Motivation and EVS experience

Aġenzija Żgħażagħ is the Maltese Youth National Agency and it has been established on the 5th February 2011. The agency is responsible for the mainstreaming of the National Youth Policy and the implementation of the Empowerment Program devised by the Maltese Government aimed to provide young people aged between 13 and 30 with opportunities and experiences that can help them become aware of their potential and responsibilities as active citizens within the Maltese and European community. Volunteering is a topic that is tackled and addressed in both the national youth policy and the empowerment program. Throughout the various programs the agency has become aware that a number of the young people that are currently participating in various programs that are being run under the empowerment program are interested in doing an experience abroad as volunteers. This year the agency has also welcomed an Erasmus volunteers from Italy and Germany student attending a language course and provided them with a work experience during the summer months. The young volunteers have met and interacted with a good number of the young people participating in the empowerment programs or that made use of the various services available at the Agency. A number of young people have expressed the wish to take advantage of European Voluntary Service opportunity in the nearby future and the Agency is taking the necessary measures to ensure that they have the support they need in order to apply.

Description of the organisation

Aġenzija Żgħażagħ is all about mainstreaming the policy regarding young people in areas such as employment, health, education and all the others fields in which young people are involved. Aġenzija Żgħażagħ works on three main pillars: youth empowerment, policy mainstreaming and research. One of the main aims will be to coordinate the work of various ministries where young people are concerned.

The Policy Mainstreaming and Research Unit will strive to ensure that young people and their aspirations are reflected in policy and projects within the various sectors pertaining to youth. The Youth Empowerment Unit shall work with other key stakeholders to develop, strengthen and facilitate empowerment programmes.
