ADISER carries out its activities in Castuera, in the region of La Serena. The region of La Serena is located at the Northwest of the province of Badajoz. Badajoz has a unique archaeological heritage in Extremadura, the biggest Fauna Conservation Area in Europe, people who keep their traditions,… This region participates in a Rural Development Programme within the different Community Initiatives LEADER with rural tourism and promotion of resources as basic mainstays.
Castuera is a town with a population of 6,632 inhabitants. It is the Administrative centre of the region. Cereal, olive groves and vineyards are its basic farming cultures, though cattle raising is the most important resource. There are over 100,000 head of cattle, merino sheep, from which the cheese of La Serena is made. The production of "turrón" (a sweet Christmas product) is another important economic driving force, as it gives many employments and a product of quality. Castuera and other nearby towns offer a wide range of cultural and leisure activities in which the volunteers can participate. The fact of participating in a small town makes the integration of the volunteers easier, as there is a lot of cordiality among the citizens.
Proposed activities for EVS volunteers
ADISER offers a space for collaboration and learning to volunteers. Volunteers may participate in the workshops and the leisure programme:
- Support the leaders in the different workshops (handicrafts, literacy, personal abilities, computers, etc.)
- Accompaniment in physical and sport activities
- Accompaniment in outings or programmed trips on weekends or holidays.
- Accompaniment to users in the transfer from their homes and the centre ADISER.
Volunteers may develop any abilities they have in new workshops or activities. This makes them being more satisfied with their task and the range of activities offered is enlarged. It also gives volunteers the chance of practicing their service vocation. As volunteers will help experts in the field of disabilities, they will receive continuous learning and learn skills such as creation and execution of activities with people with disabilities from an inclusion approach, etc.
ADISER will ask the volunteers to support staff with their daily activities. Volunteers will never substitute any job.
Activity: mornings, from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 2:30 pm. Weekends: free. Maximum activity: 30 hours/week. Holidays: Christmas and Easter.
Volunteers will support mainly during the week, though they may punctually be required to support on weekends or holidays.
Profile of the volunteer(s) and selection process:
Requisites of volunteers: motivation to work in the field of disabilities, flexible, responsible person, with self-confidence.
Interest to carry out activities will be an asset. Creativity and capacity to take initiatives are other matters which will be taken into account.
Recruitment: will be done by the contact point. It will be announced through the Internet and e-mailing lists. Candidates may also apply directly after individual search in the project data base of the EC.
All candidates will have a phone interview with the coordinator at the contact point. Sending organisations must send a report about the candidate, together with the CV and motivation letter of candidates, where the latter must specify some proposals for the activities they would like to carry out during their EVS.
Final recruitment will be done by ADISER and the Contact Point. A list of candidates will be done, in case the first candidate rejects the project. Final decision will be communicated to the candidate and sending organisations (including the reserve list).
We are open to receive candidates from any sending organisation, as long as candidates match the requests.

Prevention of risks, security and protection:
Due to the location of the association in a quiet environment, we can guarantee a security background both in the everyday life as in the project.
Nevertheless, to prevent risks and manage risk situations, we will carry out the following additional measures:
1. Candidates will be interviewed by their sending organisations in order to detect any possible difficulty for their participation in the activities.
2. Volunteers will receive training before departure and at arrival about the following matters: what they may do and what not, rights and responsibilities as EVS volunteers, behaviour rules in the hosting country, cultural differences, possible risks of their activity and everyday life.
3. We will gather all possible information about volunteers (especially regarding special needs or health conditions) and we will get prepared to support volunteers in case it is needed.
These measures will be specially reinforced in case of minors (16 and 17 years old).
Volunteers will always work with an entertainer or person responsible (supervisor of the project), other local volunteers and members of the community participating in the project activities. Only the permanent accompaniment of volunteers will prevent many risks, at the same time as a good integration in the local community is guaranteed.
The contact point will name a contact person for volunteers, who will be at disposal of volunteers 24 hours/day, so that in case of crisis situations (example, illness and hospitalization), he/she can carry out all needed matters (inform the office of ASERMUN, the insurance, the sending organisation and the family, if needed).
ADISER is an EVS host organisation since 2006. We have hosted 1 volunteer/year, from October to June. We consider that volunteers play an important role for the dissemination and integration of cultures. They motivate and stimulate our users. We offer volunteers the chance of knowing well the Spanish culture and the situation of people with disabilities. The meeting of people from different cultures is an activity which enriches and makes people grow. Hosting a foreign volunteer is a way of reaching our aim. A European volunteer will give an added value to the services we offer, as it increases the quality of life of the beneficiaries. The support of the volunteer to the staff will also mean a better attention to the target group.
ADISER was created in 2000 in Castuera. It is a regional scope organisation with the aim of increasing the quality of life of people with disabilities by improving their autonomy and independence, promoting the creation of rehabilitation, guardian, teaching and education centres for people with disabilities and extend our philosophy to those centres, bodies and professionals participating, directly or indirectly, in the rehabilitation, education or integration of our target group.
Working hours of ADISER: from 9 am to 2:30 pm, from Monday to Friday. Occassionally there are activities at other times. Activities, based on 3 areas:
- Information to family members about social, educational and employment resources
- Support to families, for the positive understanding of their problem, promoting self-support among parents.
- Procedures and search of resources for families needing it.
- Study of the situation of the people with disabilities and their families, guiding them to other areas if needed.
- Application of funds and projects to different public and private institutions.
- Vocational centre: the most demanded one by the members. There are workshops: carpets, cribs, book-binding, crochet,…
- Special employment Centre: it was started in 2005, Serena de Fomento, SL. This has lead to the incorporation of 3 workers with disabilities, the larger number of employments for this collective in the region.

Staff of ADISER: 1 social worder and 1 technician (training and integration). Punctually, we count with trainees. The rest of members and collaborators are volunteers. Most of the volunteers are family members of the users.
Target group: people with disabilities aged between 16 and 65 years.
