International rural youth education center “Deti Taigi”

The work camp will take place in two places in the Eastern Sayan Mountains: Petropawlowka and Tiberkul. In Petropawlowka, the young Russian partner association "Deti Taigi" shall be supported in setting up a youth education center. This includes various tasks like the completion of the windows, the roof and the foundations, as well as building a summer kitchen and a compost toilet. On Lake Tiberkul a banya (Russian sauna) shall be built and the foundations for the large house shall be completed. If necessary, the interior construction of the log house will also begin.
Beside the building activities there will be time for swimming and relaxing. Furthermore, there will be a horse trail through the taiga and a raft trip on the river Kassyr with self-built catamaran raft. We also take part in a regional folk festival and visit a dance and folk music event.

accommodation, food and transport arrangements

In Petropavlowka we will be accommodated in the house of Youth centre “Deti Taigi, at Lake Tiberkul in a yurt and tents and on the raft trip in a school in Tajata. The transport during the project will be on lorries, mini-buses, horses, rafts, bicycles, kayaks, canoes and motor-boats.
There will be one or two persons responsible for food and a rotating support system of the volunteers for kitchen and other services.

volunteer profile

We are looking for volunteers who are curious and open to new experiences. You should be interested in outdoor activities and you should be okay with a simple lifestyle. It is helpful if a few volunteers have some technical knowledge / experiences in construction or building, but this is not a prerequisite.
The volunteers shouldn’t be afraid of horses or being on the river with a raft but experiences in this are no prerequisites.
Volunteers with lower opportunities ore special needs are welcome.

additional information

This project could be right for you, if you are open for adventure, for leaving your comfort zone, if you want to train handcraft and to improvise under simple conditions and if you like wilderness, great Taiga, mountains, clear beautiful lakes, rivers and creeks, bears and other wild animals. It is an opportunity to get in contact with Russian people in a public wagon of the Transsibirian railway, to engage in a work-camp to support a young Russian youth organization and to do some peacebuilding among young people.

  • This organisation has additional mentoring or other support suitable for young people with social obstacles, educational difficulties, cultural differences or similar.
  • Other experience, infrastructure and resources:

    Our project is not suitable for wheelchairs but we already involved young people with sensoric , mental,physical handycaps offering them special support.
