Qendra Sociale Murialdo
description of organisation
Qendra Sociale Murialdo (QSM) is born in 1995 at Fier (Albania) on initiative of some Italian missionaries of the Congregation of Leonardo Murialdo. It is a non-profit organisation working for education, recreation and social inclusion of Albanian young people (mainly in Fier and Durres), in partnership with regional and national Albanian public institutions, others local civil society organisations and international public and private partners and donors (European Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Ministry of Interior Affairs of Italy, Renovabis Foundation, CARITAS Italiana, Conferenza Episcopale Italiana, etc), especially from Italy.
The main goal of QSM is the human and social promotion of young people and operates mainly in three areas of activity:
- the Vocational and Educational Training (VET) for young people (14-26 years old) in several fields like mecanic, electric, welding, computer, foreign languages, tailoring, hydraulic, etc. QSM has an official license recognized by the Ministry of Welfare of the Republic of Albania since 1997 and has trained more than 1.300 young people from Fier and its villages, giving them more concrete opportunities to find a job and empower their social and economic situation.
- the Youth and Sport Center that hosts around 150 children and young people every day. QSM counts 3 football fields, 1 volleyball field, 3 basketball fields and several closed spaces for artistic and recreational activities. Currently, it is the only space in the city of Fier where to practice sports and spend free time totally for free.
- the Social Inclusion of vulnerable groups like Roma people, refugees from Kosovo, children with disabilities, young prisoners and victims of human trafficking (especially girls). During its long experience, QSM developed several projects in partnership with international partners in order to improve the conditions of the vulnerable groups in the areas of Fier and Durres and keep working with a special attention to these target groups in every kind of activity proposed. Currently, QSM has a project for the school registration and inclusion of Roma children, hosts weekly recreational activities for children with disabilities from public schools and provides professional training for young people assigned to social services by a court.
