A guarantee against youth unemployment

Youth Guarantee

The Youth Guarantee ensures that all young people under 25 get a good-quality, concrete offer within 4 months of leaving school or becoming unemployed.

To fight youth unemployment, the Youth Guarantee states that the offer should be for a job, apprenticeship, traineeship, or to continue in education and it should be adapted to each person's needs and situation.

To make sure the Youth Guarantee is developed and put into place, there needs to be a strong cooperation between all those involved (public authorities, employment services, education & training institutions, business, employers, trade unions, etc.). With the support of the European Commission, EU countries are developing their own national Youth Guarantee Implementation Plans. For example, Finland has already developed a Youth Guarantee scheme and, in 2011, 83.5% of young job seekers received a successful offer within 3 months of registering as unemployed.
