A week in Sorgun-“Don’t be obese, be active”
These was an Erasmus + project. The participants of the project were: Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Poland, Estonia and Macedonia.
At the beginning I arrived there with a baggage full of curiosity, emotions and questions. On the way I filled my baggage with new friendships, a lot of informations and a new perspective about the project topic, skills that I didn’t know I have and a lot of lifetime memories.
Since the beginning I was “hited” by the hospitality and the good mood of Turkish people.Everything was very well organized. We had various activities throughout the day.
Thanks to the games we have played in the first day, we achived to know each other better and to approach as a group. In the next days we organized workshops on various topics:obesity, healthy and unhealthy food, the influence of mass media on us, physical activities, IBM etc. These helped me to form an ample image about obesity, because I could see the differences and similarities of the manifestations of obesity in each country. We discussed about a healthy lifestyle and proposed solutions for these problem. We made groups and organized presentations on these topics.
We participated in a lot of physical activities:aerobic class, volleyball and basketball match. We visitied the Mayor and some institutions of Sorgun.
In this way I gained more confidence in myself and in my skills. I was able to communicate and organize small presentations and activities with people from the other countries in a foreign language without having any problem. Also I learned to rely on and trust the others members of the group I was a part of.
In the cultural nights I learned a lot of interesting things about the participating countries. I dreamed with open eyes when each team shared with us a piece of the beauty and traditions of their country. Visiting Kapadokia impressed me because it is an unimaginable beautiful place full of history.
My grandfather used to say:”Don’t try to change the world.Be the change you want to see in it.And maybe the world will change after you”.I think these fits with these project. We didn’t change the world, but we change the perception of what obesity means, and what a healhy lifestyle means. And I think we can change now small things that tomorrow will get bigger and bigger and one day obesity will no longer be a risk factor for life and health.
I want to say :”Thank you!” to the organizers of this project because they make us feel like we are at home and also they took care to plan everything to the smallest detail resulting in these way a successful project.
It was a huge pleasure for me to be a part of these, and I hope in the future we will meet again into another project.
