Activity description

We are looking for a vet volunteer who will work in the shelter of stray cats and dogs in Sinop, Turkey and assist the vet and the staff with their work such as treatment, surgery, check-ups and keeping the record of the stages of the illnesses. The main challenge in the shelter is to fight against Distemper, Panleukopenia and Parvoviral Enteritis. So the volunteer will work on the treatment of these diseases. Feeding the orphans, sick and elderly will be the tasks of the volunteer. Organising adopting, fund raising and food collecting campaigns, going to rescue operations, city tours to feed the stray animals are the tasks of the volunteer outside the animal shelter. The day starts at 09:00 and ends at 15:30 in the shelter. Saturdays and Sundays are off.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will live in a furnished flat with the other volunteers who are here for the other project activities. The volunteer will have her/his own room but share the kitchen and bathroom. The shelter car will pick the volunteer and bring them back. The volunteer will get 250 Euros food money and pocket money per month. The flight cost both ways will be reimbursed upto the limit of the program guide.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will learn the following: - The first aid for cats and dogs - Cat and dog sterilization (male and female) - Diagnosis and treatment in internal medicine - Traumatic surgery and amputation - Post-op care - Distemper, Panleukopenia and parvoviral enteritis treatment - Nursing the orphans - Daily check-up of the patients and babies - Cooking especially for the babies and the patients and feeding - Turkish language

Participant profile

We need a young vet who may have been recently graduated and need experience for veterinary skills. We need a person who will work passionately and with love for our stray friends. We not only need a doctor but also we need a person who will be their friend.
