My European Volunteering Service happened between 1 November 2014 until 1 November 2015. My host organization was called TDM 2000 and it was an organization that promoted non-formal education and European mobility for the young people in Sardegna.
We were around 15 volunteers that worked and lived together during this year. The diversity was incredible. We were 15 nations and 4 continents with different values, cultural habits, work habits and a lot more. We were so different but in the same time with acceptance and an open mind we became a real family having the best time of our life on this island that became my favorite place in the world.
The work that I did during this year was very diverse. At the beginning I have organized an internal series of workshops for the volunteers and stuff of the association. We were learning from each other, it was a great project. After this project I started to help the organization in organizing youth exchanges and trainings; from the selection of participants to logistic matters to acting as a facilitator and trainer. I also took part in other projects during this year like the school project were I presented Romania in front of the children of “All together” - where I had workshops in high schools regarding the migrants and refugees situation. Once in a while we were participating to community actions cleaning the beach or participating in different fund raisings, as you can see in the picture of the article.
It was a great year, although it is finished I can feel the influence on my values and on my life. Practically my best friends are now in other countries and I am sad because of that, but I regret nothing. I see the world in a different way now, in a beautiful way that just few people can understand. I left Sardegna with real competences that now are helping me in my career. EVS it is not just a period of rest and fun, it is a period when you learn practical thinks that will help you in the “Real life”.
I hope this clumsy article will inspire you to go and do an European Voluntary Service (EVS) because it will be the best decision of your life.
PS: I ended up doing my EVS because I was refused on what I thought it was my dream job. It is the best thing that happed in my life ;)
