IAESTE exchange programme

Eager to gain technical experience but still studying? With IASTE, you can do a traineeship abroad while still at university.

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) gives you the chance to immerse yourself in another culture and provides valuable work experience through a paid internship abroad.

To apply, you must:

  • be a full-time student in higher education in one of the 100 or so countries where IAESTE is represented (see IAESTE country list)
  • be studying science, technology, engineering, agriculture or applied arts (see disciplines section).

How to apply

Once you've checked you fulfil the criteria, you can apply through IAESTE in your home country. Remember that each IAESTE country has its own application criteria and deadlines and that you probably won’t be able to specify your preferred destination or company.

Worried about the cost? All IAESTE trainees generally receive a living allowance, based on their employer and the cost of living in that country:

  • covered by allowance – food, accommodation and travel to and from work
  • payable by you – travel costs to the country and personal insurance during your traineeship.
