Ever imagined surfing could play a part in promoting social inclusion amongst young people? Find out how an exchange between Ireland and the Basque County made it happen.
Cross Culture Surf is a non-profit association that uses surfing to bring people together, embrace diversity and to promote cultural awareness, through different projects, initiatives and exchanges.
In 2012, Cross Culture Surf brought together 30 young people aged 14-17 from Ireland and the Basque Country. First they met in Lahinch (Ireland) over Easter and then in Zarautz (Basque Country) in August. They got a taste of each other’s cultures in a dynamic and fun learning environment.
Activities included daily surf lessons, cultural identity workshops, team building challenges and excursions.
