Swap classrooms – go to school abroad

Ok, you'll still be at school – but you'll be making new friends, improving your language skills and getting to know a whole new culture.

Spending time at a school abroad is a great opportunity for personal and academic development and will also look good on your CV. The Strategic Partnership action within the Erasmus+ programme offers you the following options:

Joint project work of groups of school pupils (5 days to 2 months):

  • the project is created by schools from different countries participating;
  • pupils work together on a specific topic in one of the partner schools and they practice foreign languages;
  • usually they are hosted in each others' families;
  • the project includes common online and local activities;
  • a small daily amount is given to cover the participants' costs.

Long-term study mobility of pupils (2 to 12 months):

  • participants spend a period between 2 and 12 months in a receiving school;
  • they usually live with a host family;
  • participants should be at least 14 years old;
  • a small monthly allowance is awarded for the living expenses of the participants.

In both activities, schools are encouraged to use the eTwinning tool in order to work together on the project before and after the mobility events.

If you're interested, your school or local council should be able to tell you if they have a scheme or collaboration you could take part in. If they don't, you can tell them about European funding possibilities through the Erasmus+ programme.
