A volunteer that works

Volunteering with people with functional diversity in Spain

Today a lot of people are involved in voluntary work, spending their personal time to helping others. If would like to volunteer with people with functional diversity (or disabled or handicapped people, as they had been called so far), you will experience a lot for sure, including personal growth.

It is a way to make social volunteering, which involves working directly with people. You will learn some new things besides make you think about your own limitations and prejudices and give you the opportunity to come into contact with people with real experiences. You will have the chance to see what unites us and what divides us, which in many situations are structural constraints and equal access barriers.

You have to keep in mind that this is a very broad field in which you can do your bit, and each area requires a different kind of implication. You can try: accompanying voluntary work (for example accompanying students with physical disabilities at your university); a casual help in awareness-raising events or in excursions for physically or mentally disabled people or administrative duties in an association working for and with people with functional diversity.

There are different ways to volunteer: you can do an intensive volunteering (e.g. during your holidays) or offer a loose collaboration, devoting for it for instance only one afternoon a week.

If you are interested in making your own experience doing volunteer work with people with functional diversity, we give you web pages of interest where find options that fit your interests and availability.

In addition we recommend consulting the voluntary offer in your autonomous region,  you can find more volunteer opportunities close to you.

Because you know Time give is never lost!
