"RETHINK" AND RECYCLE
In response to these concerns, the Andalusian Government, in collaboration with the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, Ecoembes and Ecovidrio, join forces to promote selective collection, recovery and recycling. And also to organize awareness campaigns as "Recapacicla" aims to three sectors: educative community, university and senior citizens.
This program -starded in 2011/2012- has had an excellent reception on the part of the participants, who valued it very positively. Thus in the first edition 472 activities were carried out in a total of 236 centers with a participation of 33,430 people.
It establishes as strategies "citizen awareness in reducing and setting apart waste" and "promoting recycling and reuse”.
The target group is made of public centers that offer Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Training Cycles and Art Schools. It includes training activities in person in each province. Teachers must carry out at least one of the following activities: Planet-Recycle / Who recycles our waste? / Recycling with art / Locating your recycling bins / Minimizing the waste of our educational center and/or school.
This is complemented by online courses (25 hours) to train teachers in management, practice and new technologies that minimize the production of waste, as well as promoting the reuse and recycling of it.
Other activities that have been developed with positive feedback are: "Investigating waste", which consists of finding and treating information about waste and its recycling in the fields of education, home and municipality. A final report will be issued with proposals for improvement as well as a concrete set of tools for its implementation.
The "Recycling Day", which is a day in which fifteen centers of each province are supported to organize film exhibitions, workshops, leisure activities (artistic creation, technological application...), barter market, etc.
And finally, the "Contest of Didactic Experiences", which is a contest that allows sharing, dissemination and recognition of educational work on recycling that stand out for quality, originality and personal commitment. Two awards will be offered, consisting of a two-day stay in an Environmental Education Center, where a program of activities on recycling will be developed.
"Sustainability Classrooms" in Andalusian universities have been developed in order to raise awareness of the impact of waste in the environment. They aim to form and inform the university community and also to become a reference for the rest of the citizens. Scientific, social and informational purposes are pursued, such as the promotion of attitudes concerning climate change, and reflection on bioclimatism, energy, water, waste, green spaces, mobility and biodiversity.
Besides, the contest “Recycling Art” has been launched for young university students. Reaching its 5th edition, it´s one of the most important initiative in the field of Art in Andalusia. In the previous edition, 75 artists participated with a total of 68 handcrafts of high level and quality.
The three pieces finally selected will be presented as part of an exhibition that will be held next may in ECCO, the Contemporary Creation Space located in Cádiz. There will be also a catalogue with all the works.
"Recapacicla-The Elder for the Environment" is an initiative aimed at training older people linked to the Andalusian Active Participation Centers, on the selective collection and catalogation of glass, and packaging waste, through communication actions, environmental awareness and education.
Older people come to this stage of life with an enormous desire to continue learning, and to be useful to others. Their experience makes them an ideal social segment to implement these environmental education strategies.
In this line, “The 4th Photo Contest: the eldest people for the environment”, aims to have a look at the eldest point of view concerning environmental issues. The pictures will be send to firstname.lastname@example.org until the 15th of April.
The winner pictures will be exhibited within the IV Meeting for Elder People for the Environmet, in june.
