”When working with young people, you sometimes sneakily advance certain issues through things like arts and sports”, says Maritta Sipilä, Director of the Youth Department of Lapua. Arts and sports are examples of methods Lapua Youth Department has started to use with the help of Youth in Action projects of the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme.
What happened to young people from Konnevesi and Malta when they participated in a youth exchange in Konnevesi in Central Finland to discuss ageing and to help elderly people who live alone? According to Anni Juntunen, manager of the local 4H club, their values changed, their willingness to help others increased and they started to understand lives of elderly people better.
Dream Community is a Youth for Europe project between Finland and Norway. Municipalities participating in the project are: Lieto (FIN), Mynämäki (FIN), Lebesby (NOR) and Gamvik (NOR).
